irractic rpm help needed.?????

hello to all
i have 97 cbr 600 f3 that i bought 1 month ago the guy sold the muffler he had on it and gave me a muffler that came off a newer bike it is stock muffler but had a o2 sensor hole that i plug off and i gutted the inside because it was also a catalityst converter unit.any way here is my problem the bike when it is cold would idle kind of ok then once it warms up meaning if stuck in traffic alot and temp goes from the middle of gauge to 3/4 the idle start to go hi then back to normal or when it does goes back down bike would shut off unless i keep rev it so not to shut off
and at that time the fumes coming out of the exhaust smell rich it runs good and strong until you have to stop for traffic lights it is not over heating at all the minute i take off the temp goes way down i don't know if bike was jetted when the other owner had as he didn't metion it to me
so being that i'm running a oem muffler should i be running stock jets??.
my main issue is the idle going hi after engine warms up any one else experience this promblem and what was the fix??

changing exhaust def will need jet changing. most likely if it had a pipe on it before it has to big of jets causing it to hog up at idle.
