| having some electrical probs. help! I bought my best friends bike a few months ago he has never had any probs before. He has always taking extremely good care of the bike from the day i met him. Recently i repainted the fairings and it seems that is when the problem started.
at first, every now and then, when i used my right turn signal, the bike would stall, and all the lights on the bike will be on, ft and bk turn signals, brake light, both head lights, and on the dash, all but the FI light would be on. the fi would not prime, and when the bike did start, it would kill itself. this was fixed one day by tapping the front with my hand, and then all of a sudden, the fi would prime and all was ok. last week, i was going down the road, used my turn signal, and all went to crap again. i did some trouble shooting, and unplugged my front turn signals, jiggled some stuff around, and it started again. it ran fine the rest of the way home, and all the next day. today was the first day i was going to ride (to work) since thursday, and now it wont even start! No prime, no head lights (at all now) no nothing. it will turn, but it wont start. i have done some reading and the closest thing i have seen was something about a relay that likes to go out under the front fairing, and possible tilt sensor... (not sure if they are one and the same...)
what do you guys think?
btw, I have a '02 F4i |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! check your fuse box it sounds to me the same problem i had and that is the turn signal is drawing too much of a load and blowing the fuse. When it happened to me all lights went dead and no gauge cluster. Then bike went dead. |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! ok. checked out all the fuses under the seat and everything is gravy. still no head lights, no fuel prime. the only lights that are on the display is the solid red light, N, and my brights. thats the funny thing, the display is showing i have the brights on, but the switch is off, and there are no head lights at all.... ?? turn signals work as well as the running and brake lights.... |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! check the red plug in the front harness. a bad connection there will cause the bike to die with a FI light |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! just talked to a honda mech and he said there could be some kind of safety relay that might have gone out. with the symtoms im having, has anyone had any expierence with this? would a bad tilt sensor be the cause? |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! i read on a forum somewhere that you can test the BAS by undoing the front and with the key on, tilt the front cowl 60*+ and the relay should 'click'. i did this and nothing. is this correct? also, i have been looking for how to try and bypass it for troubleshooting sake, but cant find anything relating to my bike, unless im overlooking it.... |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! i think i just narrowed it down to the bank angle sensor. i noticed that when i unplug it from the harness, the high beam indicator goes off, leaving the red light and the N light.... what do you guys think? |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! will do. and to clarify, the 2 ways to test the BCS w/o a multimeter is to tip it on its side for a few and wait for a click, and to jump the 2 outside wires.... |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! well, i broke down and bought a voltmeter. and i think i just figured it out. there is something going on with the connector that connects the front wire harness with the rest of the body.
only thing is, is that it wont come undone! any tricks? |

| Re: having some electrical probs. help! VA LAA! fixed it. i had an epiphany. since power wasnt getting through the connector, then bypassing the sensor after the connection would have no effect. i confirmed that nothing was getting power when i noticed a 12v reading before the connector, and on the same wire, there was nothing. so i thought i would try and trick it by jumping the green wire with the red/wht wire to see if this made the pump prime. INSTEAD, this turned my head light on. amazed to see what happened next, i jumped the green and the wht/blk together and THE PUMP PRIMED! i was stoked. some how, by jumping the connections, it reset the connections... just dont know where, how, or what. just know it worked and it runs!
although, my connector is kinda mutilated a bit trying to get it undone.... how does it come apart??? |
