99 cbr 600 making a ticking noise in neutral

hey im new to motorcycles this has been my first year riding and i love it.
i started off with a yamaha and now i got myself a 99 cbr 600.
its running great and souynds awesome with the yoshi exhaust but after i changed the oil on it i began to notice a ticking sound which seems to be coming from the engine and only in neutral.

and its not like a fast tick its more of like of tone and just ticks. i can probobly take a video of this if it doesnt make any sense

but idk

normally it doesnt do it when i just start it but when im sitting at a light or something i can hear it tick.
and it seems to go away when i rev the engine even the slightest bit????
anyone hear of this?

plus im pretty sure my oil is up to level. maybe a little more but i can still see the bubble in the glass with the bike standing upright!!!

How many miles have you done on her?

Also, what oil did you put in her?

i think its 10w40 i can tell you for sure in the morning! pretty sure it was synthetic tho.
and i put in 3 qts maybe a little more.

could it be something with my clutch?

Re: 99 cbr 600 making a ticking noise in neutral

obviously... maybe a little bit more than should be. when bikes leaned straight the oil level almost goes up to the top... maybe a 16th over the mark maybe an 8th..... it produces the same sound as when a wire doesnt have complete contact and its making that spark and noise.. sorta like that but it feels like its coming from the engine... and my motor seems to be running fine.... starts up everytime no problem and still goes great....

im starting to think that maybe a spark plug broke??? it happened on my first bike which was an fzr600 but i dont remeber any noises coming from that.... and it still ran fine... as far as i can remeber..... idk

If you can hear it with ya lid on then we should be able to hear it on a video. If not then you're hearing something that isn't there

Do you still get the noise (which I couldn't hear sorry) when you pull the clutch in??

Re: 99 cbr 600 making a ticking noise in neutral

i have somewhat of the same tickting noise i believe mine is actually coming from the chain but im not sure either. at lights i get a loud clicing noise coming from my left ankle so im pretty sure its the chain but im not to sure about it either. the noise only happens when bike is warm around 180 degrees but never when the bike is cold?? bike has 15k on it and its an '01 with recent oil change even tho they didnt put f****ing brake fluid in it the bastards!!!

sorry to take the post but i have same problem

Re: 99 cbr 600 making a ticking noise in neutral

I can't really hear the ticking in the video, but the auto automatic cam chain tensioner is on these is notorious for causing that. My F4 has been doing that for thousands of miles.

There's an old thread over on CBRworld about how to swap in a manual one if you're so inclined:

CBRWorld.net - CCT Replacement - Instructions/Pictures

Personally I would swap in another factory automatic one, but that's just me.

Re: 99 cbr 600 making a ticking noise in neutral

really? yeah i just got into motorcycles this year and i swapped out an engine on my sisters gsxr and hers had a manual one... now we put in an automatic one that came with the engine......
will i be able to use that one??
but yeah i still have that and now that it got colder up here... i noticed it only does it when it warms up.... if that says anything..... and its not loud.... just like a slight tick
