2002 F4i 600 Chain Help

Hey guys
Im currently in the military , and ive been in training for quite a while , goin on more then a year now , my bike unfortunatly has obviously had to sit for quite a bit ,

its Chain has rusted and ive been looking into a new chain but have no idea where to start ,
i tryed looking into a differnt forum and these guys were talking about 48/49 or 510 508 , and i have no idea what that means

to sum this all up ,
can someone help me with finding a new chain and or spockets both front and back , also give me a clue as to wut to less or to much teath in the front or back would do

and how would i go about changing it on my own?

Re: 2002 F4i 600 Chain Help

well theres length and pitch are the most important on the chain. 520 as i understand it is the lightest but wears the quickest. then 525 and 530. I use 525. Make sure you get the same length. Just count the links. since youve got the chain off, its a good time to change the sprockets. If they are worn change them now. Or if you want to mess with the gearing, do it now. Using a larger sprocket on the back or a smaller on the front(or both) will increase accelleration but take a little off the top end. reverse does the opposite. a good place to start is -1 in the front and +2 in the back. Itll be alot quicker, you might lose about 10 mph of the top. but how often are you at top speed anyway.

Re: 2002 F4i 600 Chain Help

you have to cut it or break it. they sell tools for that but u can use a hack saw or bolt cutters. theres some decent tutorial on youtube. make sure you have some one help hold the bike while your breakin the chain. when putting the new chain on. use a ball peen hammer to rivet the pins, put a piece of wood behind the chain. have you ever took the back tire off?

if ur gonna change the front sprocket. take the cover off and loosen the bolt before u take the chain off, then break the chain, take it off.
then take the rear wheel off. change the sprockets, put the rear back on, thread the new chain on, rivet it together, tighten the chain, with about an inch of slack. align the rear wheel ...done
