| Help me make 'er pretty! Ok here she is now: http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC00796.jpg
Hard to tell from pics but the yellows are mismatched. The previous owner let someone rattlecan it and they ran out paint . Plus the rattlecan job was crappy, flaking and cracking now that someone who really rides it has it.
I've settled on a base color, metallic silver. But I need some advice on some contrast. My gear colors are white & black with silver in the helmet. So it kinda limits the choices. I've got a compressor, air gun and fearless attitude towards trying new things. So picking up an airbrush and experimenting is totally in the picture.
Got any suggestions on making her stand out a bit? Oh and I'm going to strip the yellow off the rims and polish them (already have a 2nd swingarm I'm polishing). |

| Re: Help me make 'er pretty! My favorite colors are red and black, so I'm of no help..but just remember whatever accent colors you go with, don't go overboard. With accents, a little really does go a long way

| Re: Help me make 'er pretty! Right now I'm thinking of doing white and black tribal pinstripe on the lower edge of the fairings from front to back. Nothing large, bout maybe 1"-2" wide.
Course I have to learn how but part of this is trying out new things |

| Re: Help me make 'er pretty! Well to give yall an update, getting the old paint off is a PITA.
Someone suggested using a product called Citristrip, having used it on their bike. It's availible from Home Depot and is safe enough to use right in the living room. I can say it seems to be completely safe for plastic fairings. I've left it on the plastics for 12+ hrs without any softening of the plastic. A plastic knife did this after only about an hour
My problem is the paint is so thick in areas, I'm having to do multiple applications. One thing I did learn it to take a quick pass over the part with a sander with about 220 grit. Breaking the clear coat and scuffing the paint underneath allows the stripper to eat into the paint easier.
I know when done stripping the paint, I'll still have to go over everything with the sander a couple times. But I had planned to do that anyways before priming. The delay in getting the paint off has prolly pushed my finish time back about a week. |

Mostly a learning experience with the paint guns, which is why I used the Duplicolor. Why waste HoK paint? |
