| HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection I recently bought a non running cbr400rr for a project bike. I pulled the motor to determine what was wrong and discovered the previous owner had put the cams in backwards! they also broke one of the caps that secure the cams. I have a couple of questions. First can the cam retaining caps be purchased seperate or are they machined matched to the head? where can I get these parts? If I need a complete head assy where do I look for that? Since these bikes were not imported to the US my Honda dealer said they can't order parts for me. |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection Welcome aboard racer873. Sorry, but not living in the US, I don't know which direction to point you in. However, there are guys here from the US (One's in Florida) with a 400rr) so they may well be in a position to help. |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection I hope you've gotten this sorted.
I have a spare set of cams if you still need them (stock). new they are about $250 each.
The cam towers are an issue as they are machine matched to the head. This is for both proper clearance around the cams (uses an oil bearing) and for the alignment of the oil passages, so... you really need a matched head and cam towers...
The cams can be broken very easily upon removal and / or installation. You have to tighten and loosen them very evenly. When loosening, sometimes I have to tap the towers lightly with a wooden dowel to "pop" them loose after I've just loosened the bolts a turn or so.
When tightening, just make sure you run down the bolts verrry evenly.
Yes.. I learned this the hard way. |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection O, and I have a friend coming over from Lincoln (Uk) end of August (I think). if you need a head and can wait, I can prolly talk him into stowing it in his bags. They are pretty light.
If you need other stuff, I can ask him to bring other stuff over too. |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection Thanks for the additional help guys. Wally I think the cams are ok its one of the cam caps that is the problem. The previous owner was careless and broke the oil passageway on one of the caps. I have a local machine shop that is appempting to repair it but if it doesn't work I will need a replacement head. I will PM you my number as I would like to discuss getting some parts through your friend.
CBR400rr the part I need at the moment is a head gasket. I will also PM you my number any help is appreciated |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection Yeah I know Ozzy and spoke with him a little about parts but he mainly deals in Grey bikes not parts and accessories. Sometimes he will make an exception if you purchase a bike through him though. Thanks for looking out ! |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection You can still get a lot of parts through Honda Japan. I have 2 NC29 CBR400RR's at the moment and have been getting parts new frem japan through our local dealers. About 2 weeks wait max. |

| Re: HELP!! I need a 400rr parts connection I hate to say it BUT... the chinese stuff thats on eBay is your best option, other than getting a local signwriter AND a painter to paint up a plain set of fairings. The chinese ones, even if they have flaws, will still work out cheaper in the end.
My recommendation would be to contact the seller Villamotor or Villamoto {can't remember which} and he can get them made up. Hes fairly cheap and gives pretty good communication, which saves you getting the wrong thing and also going insane wondering whats happening.
A few Kiwi's and Aussies have dealt with him and were pretty happy with the deal and the product.
Try Honda JDM CBR Forums for any details on CBR250 and 400 stuff from down our side of the world in Australia and New Zealand. |
