Recommended Tyre Pressures & Oil Grade

Hi Guy's & Girl's,

I'm new to the forum ive had my CBR400rr NC29 since December but haven't ridden it much as i've been away travelling, now i'm back and the weathers better i plan to ride her alot more,

I want to do an oil change on it and i don't have a manual so i'm after some info on the best Oil Grade to run in her and how much it will require

The other thing is what sort of Tyre pressures you guys running?

Also I've got to change the rear wheel bearings, has anyone else done this before, i do alot of work on cars and have pressed bearings in out of hubs with a fly press but don't currently have one, just wondered how hard they were to get out, especially if there worn

Cheers Tim

Firstly, Tim. Great to have you on board.

You need a 10w40 grade oil. The amount will depend on whether you're changing the filter as well (highly recommended). Book says 2.9 litres if you don't. 3.1 litres if you do. Either way, buy four litres and keep checking it as you fill up. Mine seems to need about 3 to 3.5.

I run between 33 and 35psi front and rear. This works for me.

Generally speaking, the bearings are easy to get out. Any long, stiff, flat-drive screwdriver and a hammer will do the job without too much force needed. Just don't stay tapping the bearing in one place. Keep moving around, hit it firmly, then move directly opposite and hit it again a couple of times. If you've done a car's wheel bearings you'll find this a cakewalk.

When putting the new ones in, use a socket that matches the size of the bearings outer rim to tap them back in to their seat - don't forget the spacer tube before you put the last bearing in. Also, before you tap the last bearing home, make sure the tube is lined up by sliding the axle bolt back through the first bearing, the spacer and the last bearing.

There's also a bearing in the sprocket coupling that might need replacing.

Hope this helps. Good luck

I agree. It most certainly is. I would do a search and then go with what feels right. You'll never get everyone agreeing on one oil.
