RE:Improving the Mid Range on a CBR400 - any tips chaps!

hiya All,

RE:Improving the Mid Range on a CBR400 - any tips chaps!

Ok, Friday Afternoon....time to dream!
.......Won't be for a while, need to save up.

Not interested in top speed. But would like some more mid range grunt, easier overtaking, belting out of corners. Don't want to make my litte 400 a peaky so-and-so, un-ridable on the UK roads, just for the sake of chasing BHP etc...

Any tips guys?

Will changing the sprockets work on a cbr400 NC29, or will it play havoc with a mislieading Speedometer, and Mileometer?

Slip on cans by themselves worthwhile?
Will dynojetting cause the bike to be more peaky?

Can I realistically get much more out of the 400cc, then the OE setup? (Not worth spending a fortune on meadocre improvements

Hope you can advise!

Martin

If top end isn't so important to you, I would go for a gearing change. Plus, depending on how adventurous you are, you might try the intake porting idea in here Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power

+1 on the gearing change. Also just last night wally(forum member) told me you can use nc35 pistons in the nc29. They have a slightly higher crown giving higher compression and therefore a little more midrange pull

Any change to front or rear sprocket will change the speedometer readings. At least it will on my "Blade. Earlier models took the speedo off the front wheel, so sprocket changes had no effect.

Because I have no idea of the setup for the CBR400 (front wheel or final drive), the correct answer for me to give to your question is .. Maybe!

Yes it will. Nevertheless, if you do a search there's a lot of info on what changes will do. Then just apply it to the number of teeth a 400 has.

proper jetting a good pipe.... a big help will be to get the cams degreed properly. This will cost you about $600 USD.

See if you can get ahold of Kent Cams over there. They have a grind (I have the number) for the cbr400. I have tried to email them but they never reply, and when they do, they say they have never made one. Perhaps they will smile on a fellow citizen?
