Miles per gallon on a CBR400 NC29

I was wondering what sort of mileage you guys were getting on your bikes.. I found a website which converts litres bought/km ridden to MPG and my bike is getting about 45mpg running to and from work.. part of that is in town and part out of town.. Is this good??? If I do just round town riding it works out at about 32mpg

Having never had a bike before I dont know..

The best I got on a little run was 57mpg.. on a 82km run that involved running straight through town from one village to another, going at some good speeds out in the country..

Any chance you could tell me the site please Loopy. I would like to know what mileage I'm getting myself, Macca.

I reckon I may have found the way to improve the mpg on my bike I just have to go everywhere at about 60-80mph...

Wonder how the boys in blue would take it.. 'sorry officer but with petrol prices being what they are I was going fast so I could get a better fuel return on my bike'

Your numbers sound pretty good to me. In my opinion the secret to good mileage is constant speed, not high speed. And if you had taken that "long" trip at 50 mph instead of 60-80 mph, I would expect the mileage to be even better.

On a related note, I think it would be interesting if bike manufacturers would publish graphs showing Specific Fuel Consumption and not just HP and Torque. Then it would be reasonably easy to figure out which gear to be in at a given speed in order to get the best mileage.

The 82km was only the centre part of my ride, as I stopped by a petrol station I decided to top my tank up as I didnt know where I was going to go next.. I had a good day, 6 hours riding about.. I was out playing on some nice roads on the first day of my holiday.. stopping for coffee a few times.. If I had been doing 50 I would have been overtaken by everything as the speed limit was 60..

The idea of the graphs showing fuel consumption is a good one..

Loopy that's brilliant. You know what, if you weren't too far over the posted limit I think you might actually get away with that one
