CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

Hi all. Cheers LoopyLee for inviting me over here. Just a quick intro about myself, have been driving for over 10 years, and am new-ish to the biking world.

I got my CBT in Christmas 2006 and later bought a lemon bike... With redundancies rocking the office money became bit of an issue in case of unexpected rainy days. So my biking experience came to a halt...

Anyhow. No point in sitting in the past and let my CBT run out. So here I am again. With the Honda Ticket To Freedom finance deal, I have put down a deposit for a CBR125R, and the dealership will look into getting it to me soon...!!!!

Re: CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

Many thanks LoopyLee for getting the specs up.

Owwww... I can't wait alright! I have some serious baggages (cultural/family issues against motorcycling, bad experiences with past lemon bike etc). Your signature line should become my life's motto - The baggages are only just beginning to loosen, thanks to you and members of another motorcycling forum who for all the support and encouragements since my CBT.

Anyhow, the local Honda dealership will call in the next day or so to let me know when another black one will be available etc. Everything is in the pipeline!

Re: CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

Cheers for asking, Loopy. Called Firstline Motorcycles on Monday and they said they're not sure, but the Honda rep would be there on Tuesday with the delivery of a red CBR125, and they'd be in a better position to tell me when they'd get the black one.

No call on Tuesday from them.

Called them today at lunch and they said that the rep didn't come, and all they know is that the bikes are in the UK and they are waiting for a delivery. They suggested that I could call Honda myself and find out. Felt I was being fobbed off a bit but hey, I'll give them a long enough rope...

Called Honda today, who were very helpful and managed to tell me that the bikes will be going to the dealers in 2 weeks, which is pretty much consistent with what Firstline had told me at the beginning, "about 2-3 weeks".

It actually works out better as it gives me more time to ring around for insurance quotes (though I do have a shortlist already) and clear more space in the garage, as well as shopping for a chain and other bits.

Re: CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

LOL. It's about the right sort of time, I think. I have been advised to get an Almax chain for the little bike, as well as get crash bungs for it. RG racing (or something). Shall I stick with my dealer or shall I go shopping for them myself?

Shop around on the interweb and see what sort of prices you can find them for.. you may, if you haggle a bit, get some freebies with your bike..

Re: CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

I once rode the 150cc version of your bike. Their nice and light, so on those occasions where you think you've put the stand down but didn't the bike won't end up with scratched fairings and you won't have a dented pride. You can also cut through traffic quite quickly with these bikes... it's nice seeing all those cagers stuck in traffic while you're heading home at a reasonable pace

Welcome.

That CBR125R looks like it should be a lot of fun. I hope you've included protective gear in your budget.

Re: CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

Ermm.... Just after I met Sideshow he took me out for my first ride on his bike ... and I forgot to zip up the pocket where my mobile was and as we went round a corner I felt something brush my knee.. It was a few hundred yards up the road when I thought "Sh*t.. that was my phone!!!!" I got Sideshows attention (eventually!!) and we turned round and went back to look.. There was my new mobile lying in the road, smashed to bits where it had been run over!!!!!

I still have it, as a momento of my first bike ride with him..

Re: CBR125R owner-to-be checking in!

Okay... going by the conversation I had with the dealership (Firstline Motorcycles), the stork from Honda should be either shot, or be given a sat nav and training on how to use it, and get its fluffy arse to me with my bike PDQ.

Bike is now not going to arrive in another 3-4 weeks, and that's just a guestimate. It may take longer.

Can't say I am impressed, but it may work out for the better in terms of insurance and as I am not rushing for getting a driving test before the change in September/October, I am not fussed. Furthermore, another advantage to getting my bike late, may be even late August, is that the critters from schools will have finshed their summer holidays, and there'd be fewer of them drifting about on their scooters late at night. Fewer of them about, lesser chance of bike-jacks.

Thanks!!

At the moment, helmet, gloves, leathers, boots, armadillo-back protector, big-ass chain with padlock, ground anchor, are all sorted. I just had the spare seat which I bought on ebay carved down today.

Insurance quotes are about 450 pounds a year, fully comprehensive, with roadside rescue and lift to destination / hotel. Garaged. O NCB, 1x accident in Aug 2005, 1x SP30 2002.

So.... I just need a bike, and some skills to ride it well. Petrol to get it going, and coffee for me!

P.S. I even have the service manual!

You are a braver woman than me.. there is no way I want to ever take the new test, its a nightmare .. I was prepared to pay and retake the bike test every month until I passed it so I wouldn't have to take the new one..

I am also careful on my bike with speed limits (where I can be seen) so I dont get points on my licence, as 6 points within the first 2 years and you go back to a provisional licence..
