| Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements, that won't round off?! Hiya all, RE:Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements, that won't round off?!
Tried to take off the fairing for the 1st time this weekend. That was a trial!
The back end came off fine.
But the belly pan fasterners are screwed! (3 both sides)
Whats the best way to get quality replacments? As a set, individually?
Any good sellers?
Hope you can advise
Cheers

If you look under the posters name, you'll see a thumbs up/down icon. Click on the icon of the person you wish to give (or take away - but only if they really annoy you) it to and click on approve. Then make a comment and hit ok! |

| Re: Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements, that won't round off?! Hi Guys,
Taking advantage of this post I would like to know if you have any experience with the Titanium Unsprung Weight Reduction Kit Honda CBR1000RR from Pro-Bolt? This kit is all about front and rear brake system bolts and nuts.
I live in the UK and it's about time to replace several bolts, nuts of my fireblade since the weather here is not very gentle...
Thanks very much! |

Good luck |

| Re: Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements, that won't round off?! if you're most concerned about the rounding off issue and not so much the bling, you should go for a stainless steel replacement rather than the titanium variant.
im pretty sure titanium isnt the best for threads and hex heads. |

| Re: Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements, that won't round off?! If you are rounding stock fairing bolts off you are being ham handed, they are seized or you are using the wrong size Allen wrench. The stock ones are usually steel and pretty strong. The aluminum colored poser bolts are usless junk. Because of the diff metals used in the bolts and what they are screwed into (aluminum, diff alloy steel etc) they tend to seize and tear up threads. Always use PBC grease on the threads especially is you use stainless bolts. Pro bolt, Inox, Yoyodyne and some others offer nice stainless and Ti bolts. They are both strong but Ti bolts especially the bigger ones are big money. I have mostly polished stainless taper head cap bolts on my 929 and there is an easy few hundered bucks in bolts on it so it adds up fast. Tasty nuts also makes nice bolts that are steel but are powder coated in diff colors. I used the black bolt kit for the fairings and aside from having to use a TORX on them instead of the correct allen wrench do to the powder coating they are great and the kit was only like $30.
Most people over tighten bolts. If you have the right wrench in a properly installed bolt and strip the head out you are over torquing it. A good trick for fairing screws is to use a nut driver instead of a ratchet or wrench. The nut driver (a screw driver handle with 1/4 inch drive end on it) limits the amount of torque you can apply. |
