i ask about milage as i have done 1500 miles on a new set of tires and the rear is already hovering just above the wear indicators.
no burnout's or skids just riding, ok maybe fast but surley i should be getting better milage than that. | I've got about 3500 miles on my metzlers so far, they looked almost new when I got them and they still have plenty of tread on them yet... Mind you I don't hammer my tyres, but I'm not a sloth either so probably normalish type riding on them..
I'm well impressed with them |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info Mine used to be on:
Front:120/60 Metzeler Sportec M1
Rear: 150/60 Metzeler Sportec M1
Great tyres, but they wear out fast, 10 months max.
Now running on:
Front:120/60 Metzeler Sportec M3
Rear: 150/60 Metzeler Sportec M3
Same as the M1 but lasts much much longer. The bad side is that is cost way more.
When I first got my bike the rear was on 160/60 i think, it corners better but I feel that the acceleration was not there. But maybe it's just me. |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info Bought a pair of Pirreli Diablo's.
120 front 150 back
fitted the tires did first of couple of hundred miles nice and steady away. first time i pushed it into a corner forgive my french but shite myself, the front end give way and left me trying to prop the bike up on my left knee. (not fun)
anyway, got on a nhice flat resurfaced bit of road and tried again not as bad this time. so now i have finaly got them ruffed up. went out with some lads one of whom believes himself to be a "trackday Veteran" on his r6 yamaha. he should have been ashamed. the little blade handled like a dream tires worked perfect, heat up brilliant and stick even better, quite cheap to 160for the set fitted.
so if you fit them beware and take it steady the first few hundred. learn from my story
cheers all |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info I have done around 1500 miles on my Diablos and they still look new, mind you its mainly commuting and the odd day out. They still seem fine to me and on some loose gravel re-surfaced long roads recently they just ploughed through the chippings no problem, unlike my mates bike who's tyres were shimmying the bars the whole time and did not feel safe. I still have some worryingly large chicken strips though, not getting my knee down enough I suppose. |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info i had bt090 front and rear on mine before fitting diablos the only reason was that i got 1500 miles out of a back bt090 and at 106 quid a pop it would have been an expensive summer
im running mine 33psi front 34psi back or 36psi if carrying a pillion
p.s dotn ever go by the reading on footpumps get a pencil meter, i have a rather expensive michelin foot pump and the dial is at best 8 psi off, leading to a over inflated tire, just a thought for you all |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info It finally had to happen... My tyres were replaced today, not because they were 'treadless' but because they had squared off
As I mentioned early on in this thread they were on my bike when I bought her and I have no idea how many miles they had done up until then, but in since April 08 I had done 4690 miles on them. She was MOT'd just after I got her so know the milage
Since I got on well with the Metzelers, they are damn good in all weathers, I decided to stick with them and had a set of Roadtec Z6's fitted today..
Rear - 160/60 ZR17M
Front - 120/60 ZR17M
They cost £220 fitted but if the new ones are as good as the old ones, lasting as long and coping with everything from torrential rain to blazing sunshine, then they are worth every penny |

any help would be great many thanks | Hi all, just about to replace both tyres on my CBR400 - am going for Bridgestone BT 92's front and rear. Word of warning - not many manufacturers do the rear tyre size now - 150/60/18 - if choosing another make ensure it has been recently made! It is possible to fit a 160/60/18 on the rear, but as this is too wide for the rim it already places additional load on the tyre meaning possible poorer performance at the limit.
Front size is 120/60/17. Cost for both tyres is £164 + vat - not sure if this is good or not?? |

That's why i was asking what you could get in the 150/60-18"
as i can only find 4 tyres in that size Bridgestone BT-090 150/60 R18 67H Bridgestone BT92 150/60 R18 67H Bridgestone BT-014 150/60 ZR18 (67W) Dunlop Sportmax GPR Alpha-10 150/60 R18 67H |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info Yes, there are very few 18" rear tires. The 160/60 is a little too wide for the stock CB-1 rim. The best option, in my opinion, is to go with a 150/60-17 on the rear. This tire fits the stock rim with no problems. I have had a 150/60-17 on my CB-1 race bike since 2000, and on the stock rim. My bike handles great and I have NEVER had an issue with that size tire... |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info i have just fitted a 160 back on my cbr 400
as far as handling goes i see no problems at all
the extra width does not cause any problems and due to the small increase the tire is not nipped in at the edges which can sometimes happen leading to a sudden drop off at the edge of the tire.
i personaly can lean the bike over further on the fatter tire and it looks better. and because a 150 is a specialist type tire and 160 is more general they are normaly cheaper. i have pirreli diablos on and my back cost 90 quid instead of 105 quid for the 150. |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info it might be just a man thing. i put it down to the credit crunch personaly. why pay 100 quid for a tyre and only use 70 pounds worth of it. need to get every last penny out of it.
just trust your tyres and im sure they will provide. most modern day tyres, once warmed up will out perform most riders, and fitted to a machine such as our babyblades, you have to push silly hard in corners to reach the limit of them. smoothness is the key. so they say
but i am glad you are enjoying your tyres. just ride to what you feel comfortable and all will go well |

| Re: CBR400 Tyre Info If that is a man thing, pushing tires to the very edge, I hope this is done at a track. If you are pushing tires to the very limit/edge on the street...why? Way too many elements that are out of your control on the street. Cars leaking oil, gravel, sand, etc... People nowadays are doing everything while driving, from eating bowls of cereal to texting. The track should be the only place anyone should be attempting to push tires to their limits.
I know everyone on here knows this but I will state it anyway. Speed limits are posted for a reason, safety reasons. Getting to the edge of a tire on the street requires speeds that are faster than what is normally posted. With those increased speeds, comes increased risks. Ride responsible on the street. If you have that itch for riding a sportbike like they are designed to be ridden, save your money and make a trip to a track day. If you have not done this, you will understand what I mean, once you do... |
