power problems

hi everyone just having peculiar probs with my nc23 ive heard people on here say they are restricted and its a washer inside the speedo so over the weekend i removed it now before i removed it i had a top speed of 100mph(it wont go any faster than that) and between 2500 and 5000 revs was a flat spot where it almost felt like a scooter you could full throttle and it would only accelerate slowly then after 5000 revs it would then pull properly now since removing the said washer that has stopped this problem there is power throughout the whole rev range but the top speed is still 100mph (ive checked) it just doesnt want to pull past 100mph could there be another form of restriction i have overlooked, also i suspect the bike is running lean as it tends to be very fumy and also when i got back from the lakes on sunday the tip of the exhaust was black is there any tips to sort this out im servicing it next week so will see if this helps. also could my weight and size have anything to do with the top speed (6'1" , 15 stone) anyone with similar size and weight let us know how your bike is

Re: power problems

It's fair to say that the 100 mph barrier you're currently facing might be being caused by a number of things.

First, you indicate that the bike might be running lean. Well, once you're moving at those sorts of speed the bike is guzzling one hell of a lot of air, so if she's running lean the faster you go the more lean she'll get until she can't develop anymore power.

That said, your exhaust is sooting up - an indication she's running rich. I would strongly recommend that you get the servicing, carb cleaning and balancing done first before looking for restrictors. There may not even be any; at 15 stone you're a big guy. Combine that with poor functioning carbs and that could well be your problem.

Good luck with it and do let us know how you got on
