Re: Surffrog....

No, and in fact I think I made things worse. Before she would start on three cylinders. Now, after cleaning the plugs (which were wet and covered in a form of grit) and correctly tightening them down and checking the leads are securely connected, she doesn't want to start at all.

The battery is strong and the carbs are delivering plenty of fuel, so I'm suspecting a 'short' or dry joint from the low-tension leads to the coils. Tomorrow I'm going to buy some new cable and connectors and make a new set of low-tension leads. I shall report the results.

I'm thinking that I aggravated the low-tension lead short while checking the leads were connected properly. So, when I tried to fire her up there was no spark and the cylinders flooded, which loosened the coke from the top of the pistons and found its way to the plugs... I hope

Thanks mate. Also, where do you go for bike bits there? I've been trying to find out but everyone down here is very tight-lipped about it.

if it was running on three i dont think the low voltage side would be the complete issue. if it dropped power to one coil wouldnt you lose two cylinders and not just one?

Well I've heard of bikes dropping one and then another cylinder - both being run from the same coil bank. At this stage it's just a theory though...

I hate to admit this, but it's actually a guys name. It's Japanese and apparently means 'intelligent man'.

The name just came to me before I thought about it. I guess because of the Manga movie of the same name. 1st time I've ever named a vehicle with a guys name, that's for sure.

Thanks Twin. I've pretty much decided to run it down to the shop to get sorted out, as I've just spent two days going to different shops trying to get new connectors for the wiring between the main loom and the coils.

Unbelievable. I walked into one place that appeared to have every tool and fastening known to man but, lo and behold, they only had male spade connectors. Admittedly, they have every conceivable size but absolutely no female connectors. There are times when I wonder how these people survive. It should be noted that there are a hell of a lot of old classic cars (and bikes) floating around in Phuket, but I guess they have to ship the bloody thing to Bangkok to get anything more than a wash and wax done to it

I may well be heading over to Singapore myself now that I'm armed with the addresses given to me by Crisis - Crisis, let me know when you're heading out. I may well join you. I hope you like beer

Maybe it's time to get a newish 600rr

Well, I'd probably have to sell her to help make up the cost of the 600, but nothing's written on tablets of stone just yet...

I would if I could! Is PMing inhibited till I pay and become a supporting member?

Anyway, I don't have flight details yet but will see the girls in the office tomorrow. I am likely to be flying on the Friday and Monday and will let you know more soon as I know.

I will be on a course so talk of beer may be bit exaggerated on my part ... but, then again....

Will definitely be going to bike shops if I possibly can, though.

I can well believe that, Loopy. Nevertheless, I get the feeling SSB's 'blade hasn't caused him anywhere near the problems I've had.
