Cush Drive?

I posted a bit back that I was getting the bike back on the road again. Whilst I was doing this I noticed that the bearings had gone on the back wheel. I had these changed before it went for the MOT (as it would have failed).

Now I notice that there appears to be a snatching when I apply the throttle, however gentle I do it. The chain isnt old and isnt loose so Im thinking its probably the cush drive.

My question is how difficult is it to change these?
And will it mean that the "new" bearings are likely to get damaged in the process?

Re: Cush Drive?

easy to do without touching the bearings, just pull your rear axle out and the rear sprocket/mounting hub pulls out of the cush drive in the rim. fit new rubbers and reassemble

Re: Cush Drive?

Exactly what Bjorn said. It really is that simple However, it might be worth allowing a little slack in your chain. My 400 runs a lot smoother (ie no snatch) when there's some slack.

There's a bearing in the hub that holds the rear sprocket to the wheel. As this hub has lugs that seat against the cush drive rubbers (their job being to soften the blow between the wheel and the hub each time you change gear and accelerate) the hub bearing is sometimes referred to as the "cush drive bearing".
