Radiator Fan

Hey Guys,

I have found that when i have taken my bike for a long cruise into the city and there is quite some traffic the bike heats up and i have not heard the Radiator fan working at all.

I have checked the Thermostat and it all works fine and opens up.
The temp gauge also was perfectly fine. Just the fan doesnt seem to turn on at all.

Any ideas.?
The Fan looks in good condition. Just don't know if its working or not.

check your connector pins which goes to the thermostat and fan. it might have a loose contact or burnt wires.

this happened to me before, so check every wires very well....

Re: Radiator Fan

Ok sweet,

Will check them both. I checked the connectors on the fan and it looked ok. Could also possibly be that the fan has seized. But it still spins freely.

remove the whole fan assembly and try to connect it DIRECTLY to the battery. if it spins, its ok, if not then its busted.

you can't really determine if its working or not just by relying the fan spins freely.

Re: Radiator Fan

No one seems to have mentioned this yet, but you should check the sender unit in the radiator. Everything might well be working perfectly but if the sender unit has packed up then the fan won't switch on.

One more thing: the sender unit might be fine but if there is insufficient water in the radiator the fan still won't come on because the sender won't get hot enough to engage.

Well, you'll need to take the fuel pump out. It's located under the carbs but you don't need to take them out. What you may well find is that the rubber mounting used to hold the pump in place will have split by now. But don't fear. When you put it back, place it as close to its original position and strap it up with the mechanic's best friend - the cable tie. I use two of them just to be on the safe side.

With the pump out you're looking for just one wire with a single connector on the end.
