| fuel consumption Hi everyone
I ran out of gas this morning on my way to work and I had to stop and switched it to the reserve tank. The thing is I filled it up last week and the full tank seems to only last me for 195km. is it normal?? if it's not, what would've gone wrong? I shift gears at 5~7000 rpm so it's not like I'm a aggressive rider or anything. a litte help please......... |

I remember reading an article on these bikes and it mentioned poor fuel consumption. |

| Re: fuel consumption im not sure what you have been reading about fuel consumption being poori. 1 got 76 mpg which is not bad out of the little beast on a steady trip to the coast the other day. and then i realised i was going to be late for work. and achived 28mpg on the way home . which illustrates brilliantly how you ride it definatley makes a difference to your fuel consumption |

That way I've immediately got a handle on service intervals rather than relying on the words of someone selling me the vehicle.
If I were doing a lot of commuting on my bike, I would want to change my oil and filter every 2000 to 2500 kilometres. If you only use the bike for long, fun activities, then extend that to 3,500 - 4,500. Just remember things can still need doing between service intervals.
Even if your bike was serviced when the previous owner said, I would very much doubt the carbs got a look-in. It would have probably (if you were lucky) included plug change, air filter, oil and oil filter. On older bikes the carbs are generally not looked at or touched in anyway until they start causing problems, and that's when we all jump up and down bitching about how bad carbs are. |

| Re: fuel consumption Got an update on the RXS (my sons bike)... For about 100 miles he managed to fill his tank up for £5.50 (or there abouts... Price is about a £1 a litre!).
My calculations have said he is getting about 75 (or just under) MPG.

| Re: fuel consumption That could be the difference in ambient temperature or giving it slightly more throttle here and there. I would run at least one more tank to be sure, as long as the bike isn't complaining. By the way, what do you mean by low octane?
What are the numbers? |

| Re: fuel consumption Hi all,
I'm using shell v power and getting about 220 - 240 km before the reserve kicks in - it seems to be about 11.5 litres to the reserve, so I'm getting pretty close to 60mpg - well happy with that!! |
