Re: front brakes for NC23

i've got some new front brake pads today

i desided to get EBC Double H pads and what a difference they make wall worth the £23 a caliper

so after i fitted them i when out for a ride and dame there good my bike acutely stops now

but the rear brake is so **** compared to the new fronts and the rear was a lot better then my only fronts

so after about 20miles i desided i needed some new rears so i went back to the bike shop and got some EBC Double H rear pads

i'm hoping to get them fitted on Sunday but it will probably end up being done on money

Do remember that you do about 99.9% of your braking with the fronts. Even the best brake pads in the world are not going to make that rear brake come close to the stopping power of the fronts. In fact, I would advise you leave that rear brake alone until you've become comfortable just using the fronts. It's VERY easy to lock up that rear brake and under the wrong conditions it can cause you all kinds of issues.

99.9% front brake think you'd be over the front handlebars if you tried that one at speed!

Those front pads do sound good though, wil have to invest in some of them I think!

Actually, I rarely use the rear brake. The xceptions being on the street or in bumpy sections.

to the OP:
get a rotor hone (~$30) and clean up your rotors as well. this reeeeeallly helps the brake performance big time!

You will not be going over the handle bars by doing this unless you are trying to use 99% of your bike's braking performance when it is unwarranted.

I stand by what I said. If you are trying to slow yourself down from real speeds with the rear brake you are going to run into difficulties in the foreseeable future. You are not riding a scooter with so little weight that even if the rear did lock you are still shedding a lot of speed. Trust me, you should be doing nearly all your braking on the front brakes and using the rear to help with turn-in; not as a tool to help slow you down.

and also you need the rear brake in traffic and at low speeds

i'm going to get my new rears fitted today

I use both when slowing down at speed, 75ish front, 25ish rear and obv more rear in the wet! I do understand where you are coming from though.

It sounds to me that you are using the rear to provide additional stopping that you don't feel you have from the front. Riding a motorbike is nothing like riding a bicycle where braking is concerned. I would suggest you leave that rear brake alone in the wet. You must of locked it up a few times riding like that, surely?

I do feel that the front pads are wearing a little, thats why I took interest in this thread originally. I never apply too much force to the rear so havent locked it up. As you say I use the rear as additional stopping.
