| Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions Hey, first time using the forums, hopefully you can help
I'm 16 at the moment (currently driving a 50cc Speedfight 2 lol), i'm 17 in December. I recently bought myself a Mint CBR400RR (1992). It kills me to look out of my window every morning and see it sitting there but anyway, back to the point.
With the bike being 17 years old, it has the odd slight scuff, and when I say slight, I mean the slightest little scuff that nobody else would bother with. Seeing as I have 4 months to play around with it, I want to get it perfect ready for when I can ride it.
I am just wondering if there is anywhere on the bike that tells you what the Colour Code is, just so I can get some touch up paint for the little scuffs.
Also, at the moment the bike is derestricted, I have already browsed the forums and found out that it might be a good idea to resrict it for the 2 years. Then derestrict it again legally. Just looking for opinions on what to do really.
Thats about it, unless there is any general tips that you could give me. Being new to it and all I could do with all the help I can get And oh yea, feel free to ask for more info about the bike, just didn't want to make the thread too long. |

I thought my 2 year restriction would pass really slowly, but it hasn't.. Only 6 months to go then look out big blade, here I come
Second...... I moved the thread for you
Now to help with the rest of your questions Quote:

| Re: Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions Hi Shallice, you will find the colour code under the pillion seat, its a small white sticker that will have a few letters and numbers such as nh-193p or similar. If its not there try this site for clues, colour codes are in brackets under the model picture. CBR400RR (NC29) Model Info |

| Re: Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions Thanks for all the help, I have been quoted £220 to get it re-resricted, might look into doing it myself. If not I might take a chance and leave it as it is.
LoopyLee, its Blue and Red, still trying to figure out how to upload a picture
And cheers Davez, found it under the pillion seat like you said. (CBR400RRL. Color - PB-184M-U. Code - PB184E) Any idea on how I go about ordering a small amount of touch up? I went to my local Honda dealership and they said they won't be able to get any because it is an import? |

| Re: Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions I've just done a google search for that colour code and it was used on other bikes as well.. So I'd try ringing them and asking them if they can get it, just don't mention what bike it's for |

| Re: Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions ok, first make sure the code and the picture of bike matches your bike, just in case someones painted it or put different bodywork on.
The best place I found was RS motorbike paint, RS Motorbike Paint - Motorcycle paint, bike paint, Honda Yamaha Kawasaki not the cheapest but the only place that I could get my paint (Ross White nh-196) without any hassle, the quality is great and its delivered as soon as its mixed.
A slightly cheaper place that I have bought excellent clearcoat from, its by upol and they can match paint codes, although they insisted my ross white paint code was blue? so could not buy this from them, is car & motorcycle paints...Everything from car touch up paint to air tools available online
but always verbaly check what you order is the right colour. |

| Re: Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions as far as restriction goes its a money making scam. you pay 220 quid for 20pence worth of washers, and a bit of paper. BUT
and its a big but, if you dont get it restricted or at least get a certificate to say its restricted, and you get pulled or heaven forbid hit something and they check it
1.you aint riding within your permited limits. thus might aswell not have a licence so will get treat as such.
2.your insurance will be void as you arnt allowed to ride a bike of such power. so will get shoped for that.
they cant tell at the side of the road as the washers are in the inlet rubbers but they have the power to dyno the bike.
so you have sh@t it to be honest. im not one of these who says it is dangerous for you to not have a restricted bike as you may be better than the majority of the riders on the roads. so its just up to you and your luck really. |

| Re: Honda CBR400RR Paint / Restriction Opinions Cheers Davez, I looked into it and found a local dealer who claim they can almost exactly colour match any colour paint. When I can I will probably drive it there myself and sort it out that way.
As for the restriction problem, I had another look through all of the paper work and found a Restriction Certificate, as far as I am 'aware' the bike is already 'restricted'. Does this make it legal for me to drive it?
Also, I live on the Isle of Wight, there isn't a Dyno on the Island so they would have to go through a lot of trouble to prove what the bike is capable of.
The way I am looking at it is I will have to pay £220 to do something that I DON'T want done... Its like me throwing away £220.. I don't see how they can justify the price. |
