Time to play with the big boys, get an f4i or 600rr if the funds are available.

Depends what 'doing up' there is to be done - if you're looking to increase performance, I would say the cheapest / easiest option would be to sell the 400 and go for a 600 (CBR, of course!). Or if you're ready, you can pick up 900's for not a lot of money -£2k-ish should find you a good one.

I'm upgrading next Feb after my licence restriction ends and I've set my sights on a 2002 fireblade

I want a bigger bike now as well, and feel ready to move up but have to wait

Less than 6 months to go now though

6 months is not that long.... good choice of bike to go for too (954 I assume?). Winter is supposed to be a good time to buy, perhaps in Jan when people need cash to pay off their Xmas credit card bills

You'll love a Blade, my one is awesome, the 954 even more so

Very nice, I like those and the blue/black ones myself, the blue is a bit more restrained I suppose but still nice.

Well there's no need to be pissed off, people are only trying to help! To be fair you've given us very little to go on with the initial post so assumptions have to be made - we are not mind readers! I guess we all may have made the common assumption (wrong in this case) that the 400 is your 1st bike, and quite possibly restricted - as this is the case 99% of the time.

None of us are obliged to help out, we do it because we like to try to assist others. If you are not getting the responses you would like, it might be worth reconsidering the question being asked in the first place, and whether you have included all of the relevant information surrounding the question.

i wasn't meaning on this site

i meant when i go to bike meets etc most people ask is this your first bike and how long have you been riding

which when you've been riding longer than they have they then say ohh and go away

one of the reasons i got the nc23 was the seat height

and imo the nc23 is one hell of a looker

i would like to keep it but i feel like i need more power (its also still limeted to the 180kms)how do i remove it ??

Ah I understand - well in that case I apologise if I was too abrupt, but again it does highlight the importance of posting accurate information!

(I can see how you might find that annoying......)

As for the looks of the NC23 - I'm not familiar, perhaps you could post up some pics of the bike?

And more power.... well I always believe that it gets VERY expensive very quickly when trying to upgrade a bike for power - far cheaper just to buy a more powerful bike. You could probably sell the 400 and get a 900 for pretty much the same money.

Unless you REALLY love the bike and want to make a serious investment in creating the ultimate 400 (and then keeping it), I wouldn't bother - you will never get close to getting your money back if you choose to sell.

Have a look at 900's - I love mine, it's an awesome bike Treat yourself!

i know the conversions have been done before
but i don't know how much it cost to do it

it dose look a lot of fun thought

but i just don't know what to do

anyway here's some pic's of my 1989 CBR 400RR-K

Take it from someone whose just done that. Whether or not you've been riding for years. My zx10r feels like the USS Enterprise when I open her up and she nearly rips my arms off. There's nothing wrong with the 600s, they're great bikes and a lot, lot faster than the the 400s. I actually went out looking for a 600 f4i/CBR, but I just couldn't find one here. They're just rare as rocking horse poo in Thailand.

Joey Dunlop's favorite racing bike was the 400 VFR. I don't think anyone asked him if it was his first first bike or how long he'd been riding for.

Personally I would stop worrying about what others think or say. There's a fair bit of power left untapped in your bike as it's still restricted.

which when you've been riding longer than they have they then say ohh and go away

one of the reasons i got the nc23 was the seat height

and imo the nc23 is one hell of a looker

i would like to keep it but i feel like i need more power (its also still limeted to the 180kms)how do i remove it ??
So, the only reason you're thinking of selling her is because of the comments from others. Why bother? Sort out the de-restrictors (there are a couple of types; one mechanical; one or two electrical) in an afternoon and then get out there and enjoy her again. De-restriction isn't expensive and most of the info is already available on this forum. Use the search feature

I can't give you accurate figures because I don't know, but it will be enough to notice the difference as well as cheap and relatively easy to do. I'm sure some one will have a better idea of the figures, if it's really necessary.

Which means the speedo itself is the restrictor. There is a modification in this section, which shows you how to do it. It isn't that hard to do. I don't believe the bike will accelerate any quicker once done, but you will hit higher top end figures.
