need help! urgent. no spark, nc29

Hi,
i am new to the forum. I tried to seach for the info, but could not find anything.

The story:
I bought a tuning cdi from ebay, chinese company. Supposed to ignite at more deg btd. ,increase rev limiter, and remove top speed restriction. However i could hear that it ignitet at less deg btd, and the rev limit was 2000 _lower_ than stock. I thought, crap, i'll just mount the original one and stay away from china.
This is where the trouble begins. As i mount the stock cdi, the bike won't start. there is no spark whatsoever. I have tried numerous times, changing back and forth, the conclusion is that there is no longer any spark from the stock cdi, only from the china **** which was returned, and the refund is nowhere to be seen.
I thought that, although strange, it might be the cdi. Bought a new (used) stock functioning cdi, still no spark on my bike.

SO. I reckon that there is a signal, that the china cdi does not need for running, and the stock does, that has been ****ed up by the china one.
As this is a relatively simple bike, the only thing that seems reasonable is the two wires concerning the speed limiter. So i need to know which values the cdi i supposed to read from these? as far as i understand it is not as easy a NO/NC (normally open/normally closed) circuit. so how do i bypass it??

Please help,
Regards from Norway.

First and foremost, welcome to the forum, e34_525tds. Secondly, I'm quite surprised that you weren't able to find anything on the restrictor as we've been discussing this at length over the last year. Keep looking in this section because someone even posted a diagram on how to bypass it.

There are in fact two restrictors in the stock bike, if you forget the third that's located under the carb inlets. The other two are located in the CDI and in the speedo. It maybe that the instrument restrictor has blown. I've heard of the instrument restrictor becoming affected by rain or dirt and causing similar symptoms to those you're experiencing. Also, recheck the cdi connector. When replacing my last one for my NC29, I had a dry-joint in the plug and that knocked everything out, too.

Good luck with it and do try to keep us updated.

Hi and thanks
I of course measured all the cables and stuff, then measured every componenent etc.l In the end it was, embarassing enoug, a "bad wire/connector" in the cable/contact for the CDI unit....
the bike is now running again.

Thanks for the reply
