Biike looses power and feels like fuel starvation

Hello everybody

I recently bought a Nc23 and now am having problems with it, when I ride it sometimes wants to cut out and die like it has no fuel, and then after a few seconds I start it up again and it runs but not in all cylinders while sometimes it runs in all 4 cylinders as it should after I restart it.

At first I tought its my fuel pump but had it tested by an electrician and he said it was working with no problems, so Im thinking it might be my carbs but then again Im not sure wot the problem is as the bike does it no matter if the engin is hot or cold and some times after a 150km ride and at other instances only after 500m.. Please HELP!!!

Kind regards: Horea

Don't take one test of the pump as proof that it is working fine..

When I got my bike I was having the same problems, tested the pump and all seemed ok so we went on to try loads of other things without success.. It turned out (eventually ) that the fuel pump was failing intermittantly

It took weeks for us to figure out the pump was messing about!! By the end of this time I was all but ready to set fire to my bike as I was getting sooooo frustrated with her.. A replacement pump had her sorted out without any problems

If I was you I'd bypass the pump, like I did while waiting for the new one to arrive, and connect the tank direct to the carbs, the fuel hoses are just long enough , and see how she runs like that for a while.. You'll have to remember to turn the fuel off when you park up anywhere and try to keep the tank topped up as much as possible..

Let us know how you get on, just in case it's something else

Heloo and sorry for the long wait. thanx for the above info
This week Im taking my bike to a mechanic to put an inline fuse to my pump and bypass the fuelpump relay so I hope it will solve the problem.

And now for my next question.... wot diameter does the original rear sproket for an NC23 have?? as my clocks are over- reading and someone told me I should check my sproket sizes and unfortunatly the workshop manual doesnt give me that info...

That wasn't what I meant... Pretend your bike doesn't have a fuel pump. Run the fuel pipe from the tank straight to the carbs so the fuel doesn't go through the fuel pump, but is fed directly to the carbs.

That I don't know, mines a NC29.. One of the 23 owners maybe able to help you with that or it may be in another thread somewhere.. Try doing a search

Re: Biike looses power and feels like fuel starvation

I had the same problem too last time...but since I have sent my bike for a full overhaul of the engine it seems to be perfect...haven got a chance to try out fully though cos the road limits here are very low 90km/Hr for expressways....

I used to have the same prob before....when I hit 120km/hr the bike becomes jerky resisting to go forward but once I pushed her above tt limit and the moment I stopped engine went off couldnt start for 10mins...haha

U should def. ride ur bike harder more often, otherwise its just gonna build up with a lot of carbon. just use a back road or something and push it to the limits, all gears to the red line until u get to max speed unfortunitly i dont know what mine is coz my spedo stops at 190km/h
