Cbr400 rectifier problem !?!?

Hi everyone

I have a cbr400 aero 86/87 year model, i bought a new reconditioned rectifier and battery, Because my old 1 was completely dead for some reason and the rectifier. When i connected the new bat and rec, i turn on the ignition key, nothing happens... not even the lights of my bike will come on, but as soon as i disconnect the plug with the 3 yellow wires, the lights go on as soon as i turn on the ignition key and my bike starts. Can some1 please please!!!! help me.... i'm already 2 weeks without my bike and i'm starting to go crazy...

Today i took my rectifier for testing and it checks out 100% fine. Have anyone else had more or less the same problem before ? i just need to know what to test and how to test em and what kind of readings i should get etc.

Sounds to me like there's a short in the regulator/rectifier connector. You said the old one died. Well, it's not unusual for them to take other things out with them. So, first check the thickest wire leading out of the connector heading toward the seat. These tend to erode from the inside but look fine on the outside, especially when the reg/rec blows. I would also look inside the connector for evidence of burning caused by lose connections. A lot of heat gets generated in there.

Good luck and let us know what it was.

the starter solonoid is also linked to these, is there a loud click, but still nothing happens? the 3 components must all be in sync for bike to start. i had to replace all of them for putting the wrong type of bulb on my bike. also make sure the back and frame where reg/rec is clean and clear when fitting as it is the earthing for it (do it once and no need to worry).
