| Hi Everybody.. I've got a 1986 CBR400F NC23, which was a great ride till now...
it didnt run smoothly coz there was no ignition on piston 2&3.
I was only 3 miles from home at 2am n said I'll go through...
just b4 home, it stopped running, and there was no spark on piston 1&4 also..
the question is :
if it was ignition coil, did the second one stopped working because of the other or its just a coincedence? could it be the CDI? or any other part beside wires and connections?
PLEASE ADVICE ME what to do.. |

Where abouts in London are you from?
SSB are the coils on these individual or is there one complete unit for all four leads?

Thank u all for the effort to help.. I really appriciate it.
now, there r 2 coils (cylinder 2&3 and Cylinder 1&4) are they the same coils? the same actual part? but only connected to 2&3 or to 1&4?
and how do I check if I have power to the coils? |

| Re: Hi Everybody.. Freedom.
This problem sounds very much like something most 400 owners go through. Firstly, I would start from the beginning. Check the main fuse - probably located under the seat on the left side of the bike. If okay, then put a volt meter on the battery with the ignition off. It should be reading at least 12 -12.5v. If it's reading lower than 12v, then the chances are that you are either using too bigger wattage light bulbs (the stator on these bikes can't support the current drain) or the stator coil (not to be confused with the spark plug coils) is on the way out. There is one other thing it could be. The regulator/rectifier is located under the tail fairing (black box), and has several wires going into a white coloured connector. Check the thickest wire coming out of that connector. It's the one heading under the riders seat. Try bypassing it with an equally thick piece of wire. They get old and corrode from the inside while still looking perfectly good on the outside. If the bike then starts, replace the wire.
If none of the above helps (and you've checked all the fuses), then it is possible the reg/rec has died. |
