For peace of mind I would change it asap.. always use decent stuff on a high revving engine.

I recently just picked up a motorcycle, and after researching oil to put in mine, I've learned you CAN NOT put car oil in motorcycle.

Re: oil change 10w30

i myself have also been doing some research, most of what i read tells that you shouldnt use car oil in a bike, but some says that its ok to use.

i know a few people that have expensive bikes, and use car oil in them with no problems. also they have used car oil in their cbr 400 with no problems.

myself, i dont mind shelling out for good bike oil its just i cant get the type i need in this country easily. after this oil change im gona put car oil in, il let u know what happens!

Car oils will generally work just fine as long as they _don't_ contain any friction-reducing modifiers. If they are friction modified, they will still work fine as oils, but you won't be able to ride as the wet clutch will slip until you replace the oil.

We've had this conversation already. !0w40 mobil semi-synthetic car oil is fine. If you remember, that's what I'd used in my CBR and it got sold on twice with no engine issues. And I stand by that because I now use Shell Helix extra 5w40 in my Kawasaki ZX10r. The bike's done over 7,500 kilometres with me and it's still fine.

Have you noticed that bike oil only comes in little litre bottles, which ends up costing you more? There's the main reason people get told you can't use car oils.

Pktpaul I promise you won't have that problem with the oils I've recommended to you as they don't have any friction-reducing modifiers.

?
I've never bought bike oil in one-litre bottles and I can't recall even seeing such things.
I've only bought it in four, five and twenty-litre drums.

Maybe Australia is different.
I know the UK only used to sell 1 litre bottles, but that was a long time ago.

I guess the main problem here in Thailand is that 99% of riders tend to use Scooters that don't need more than a litre.
