Yamaha Warrior

For part of a GWRRA Poker Run last Sunday (4/10/05), I traded my FJR with a friend of mine for his Yamaha Warrior. We each had the other's bike for about 25 miles. He made the mistake of riding my bike (a mistake because now he wants one), and I had the fun of putt-putt-putting on his Warrior.

The straight pipes are obnoxiously loud (yet there was something there tugging at my soul), the forward controls are awkward, the sitting position would make anyone a slouch, the engine's grunt is formidable, the ride smooth... it's a fun machine, a different kind of fun.

He mentioned the polarizing effect that he's experienced on the bike. When riding the Warrior, people wave, give him thumbs up, show the bike to their smiling children... yet when riding his (much quieter) Kawi 636, nearly the opposite is true, people glare, give him the evil eye, etc

Anyways, I'd add one to my stable if I had the means

...but until that day, by friend said he'd be happy to let me ride it - I leave mine and take his

You know, I actually like one cruiser... the Victory Hammer...I'd love to take one for a ride.

I actually like several different cruisers, but the Hammer is one of them.

I have a friend who is an avid club-level sportbike racer, motard racer, and motorcycle mechanic, and he loves loves his Warrior.

Yeah, me too. A Vmax with some pipes would be cool. A supercharged Valkyrie. And burn me at the stake, but I still like the VRod in silver.

Looks and sounds about the same, just costs a lot less and doesn't leak a drop of oil.

It sure would be nice if sportbikes got the positive attention that's been given to choppers through shows like OCC, Buildoff, MM, etc.

That's one of the cruisers I actually don't mind.

BTW I've heard those Victories are big time pieces of ****. Look cool though.

If you're going VTX, definitely go for the 1800.

The Warrior was at the top of my list when I was shopping cruisers, until I sat on it. Awesome looking bike, but a slightly awkward riding position. I wanted something comfortable for two, and the Warrior failed miserably. The rear footpegs were extremely high due to the monstrous exhaust.

Yeah, even just looking at the bike (my attachment) you can see that the pegs are impossibly high. They seem like an afterthought, kinda like a rear seat in a Supra, or an RX-8

...on the other hand, it might be possible to put passenger pegs using a bracket that would attach to where the old rider controls were, if forward controls were used

Heh heh, look at me, I don't even have the bike and I'm trying to solve technical problems with it

I like the Warrior better than the VTX1800 but I like the VTX1300 over the Warrior for comfortable cruising.

I'm not sure whose that one is, but it's not mine. Mine's sitting on the 636, and you can see it in the pic, left of the Warrior's headlight.

I have to disagree on this one...think of all of the people that have been so wrapped up in the chopper craze and then picture them on a sport bike? Think of all of the police attention too...But on the same hand if you can ride "A bike" with a 13 foot long front end and one brake on the whole bike I guess that you have my attention

I traded my 954 in for a Roadstar Warrior last year. The 1670ccs are fun to use around town but there arent enough rpm's to keep me satisfied. I sold it about 4 months later and bought my 1kRR. I still miss my 954 though.

NO passenger would want to go with me.

The bars are also WAY forward.

I like the looks, but love the feel of the VTX better. I decided on a Harley though.

Why did I go Harley?

Because it had everything I wanted when I went looking. Sporty looking, Front Fairing w/shorty windshield, Hard Bags, Radio w/Xm, Sound, Not alot of chrome as I like to ride not be stuck cleaning the damn bike

I bought the StreetGlide which I guess you could say is a half dresser. I'm not ready or need a full dresser and feel the goldwing is for the older crowd.
