Re: Cruisers.... that bad???

I can say I have both a sportbike and a cruiser that I just bought about 2 months ago. I'm not even sure I'll be back on the sportbike because I love being able to relax and enjoy the scenery where with the sportbike the only scenery I get to watch is the road because I'm to busy hitting the twisties.

Hell I even sold 1 of my 954's and have contemplated selling the 2nd 954.

Cruisers

I don't like most cruisers because they usually have the speedo on the tank
which is really stupid 'cause you have to take your eyes off the road to see it
and my tank bag would cover it !

The controls are usually forward mount..........{stupid since these bikes are tuned for TORQUE and don't need to be shifted much}......................... which puts all your weight on your ass and spine and makes it so that you CAN'T stand up when a pot hole or railroad tracks are commin' up !

They also usually scrape hard parts very easily in the corners........
{the warrior, mean streak,Vrod don't but they are still forward mount and have SMALL gas tanks } !

That said......I LOVE my Valkyrie !

Keep the 2nd one. Different kind of riding and you WILL miss it, even for short distances.

Re: Cruisers.... that bad???

I want a cruiser. It's an eventual kind of thing. I just don't know what kind. Maybe a busa or a zx12r.

Seriously though, I would like a Triumph Rocket III. That's a cruiser i could really get behind. Turbocharge that baby, and Blammo!! 200hp, and an 800lb bike that wheelies in second. hot hot hot hot hot.

The rune is nice too, it's freakin' huge. i hate choppers, can't dig the apehanger handlebars that others put on cruisers. i'unno. just me.

But, more realisticly, i'll be getting a Buell Ulysee's or bmw K series for super long trips.

Re: Cruisers.... that bad???

I had a cruiser waaaaaayy backaround '90, for a month. Hated it, and the final straw was (besides dragging pipe and highsiding around Fort Ord) the female who had sold it to me (under power of attorney) had not informed her deployed soldier husband that she was selling all of their crap while he was overseas. I returned it when I found that out (within a month). She resold it to someone else.

A few months later, he returns to find all his personal belongings gone, some dude living with his wife in his house on Post, and per regulations - he was forced to move into the "barracks". This lasted about a month and a half, when I guess he had had enough. Checked his shotgun out of the armory, went to his house, shot the boyfriend, shot his wife, and then shot himself.

Guess who lived?

Anyway, I just got rid of my Suzuki Bandit standard, and miss it for the 2 up jaunts to the coast, and will probably buy another standard (leaning towards the ZRX-1200), but not a cruiser. I'm too practical for the chrome crowd, and standards are just as comfortable if not more so for my purposes. And they can still corner and GO!

Re: Cruisers.... that bad???

I have a 2002 Yamaha Warrior temporarily. I did some creative trading to get it (in my favor), and thought I would get a kick out of riding for a month or so. It's fun around town, but the forward controls make it torture on the highway.

I really love my VTX 1800F1. For those that have never rode one, they are awesome power machines. Just like the CBR954 I've had, you still need to replace the stock seat.

You can still drag pipes on a standard bike also, like a Ascot maybe. Or so I have been told

I have both bikes as well the only difference I find is when going through the twisties on the cruiser your just going a little slower but still having fun. While on the 929 your going fast through the twisties and still having fun.
I find the cruiser a lot more comfortable for driving around town than the CBR.... but you can't beat the CBR on the highway

Some of us don't consider that a cruiser.

Sportsters are what they are... Get something that is more considered a cruiser then you may find you will like it.

Re: Cruisers.... that bad???

The only cruiser i would consider is a Warrior Raven (all black, no chrome). I think Chrome is Ghetto.

But I'd rather have a tourer first. One of the bikes I would like to get is a 98-2001 VFR.

Re: Cruisers.... that bad???

I bought the Shadow Spirit 750 C2 and I love it. It takes curves very well, but then again why would I want to take a curve a 60mph? I really love the smooth ride. Where ever I head out to I know that it will be there whenever I arrive. With my wife on the back, its smooth sailing all the way.

I think it boils down to riding styles. If you want to cruise, get a cruiser, but if you want to race then get a racing bike. My cruiser fits me just fine.
