| Cruisers.... that bad??? So now that it's starting to get really cold a friend of mine is storing his VTX in my garage. The more I was checking out this bike the more I started thinking "Yeah... this is pretty sweet!" I'm definitely 100% sportbike but now that I've been on the track riding on the street has lost it's allure. I could see myself making the 600 a track bike and picking up a cruiser for tooling around on. Anyone else ever consider this or am I just looking for another toy for the collection? |

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? Have tooled around with the idea of getting another bike to just commute on and the like. Don't know about a cruiser, more like a DL, SZ or a Motard. Cruiser require a slightly different riding style. When I had a cruiser and the RR we would take the cruiser out on Sat for a nice ride. Definitely a better two up bike. |

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? Nothing wrong with a cruiser, a different bike for a different purpose. Just as my Ascot is a lot of fun in a different way than the RR (or RC) so would a cruiser be fun

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? The parts manager where I work got rid of his old V45 Sabre and picked up a new Suzuki 1400 Intruder. With all that rake, it's super wobbly at low-medium speed, and he's found himself dragging the footpeg brackets. (not the peg itself, but the solid bracket that holds it) If he'd leaned any further he probably would have lifted his front tire and crashed. Cruiser like that are simply not safe in the twisties.
Now that I've said that I'll add that a have a huge boner for the Street Rod. (as a second or third bike) |

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? I had a 2001 Shadow 750 ACE Deluxe.
I loved it...until I knew better. Once I became a better rider I realized how the bike didn't do anything well. It didn't turn, stop, accelerate. Nothing. Well, it went in a straight line well. My wife misses it, but I don't.
Recently I've thought that I might like a cruiser again, but then I think that there are much better bikes for the money. Bike that will do everything better than a cruiser would. Examples:
Triumph Sprint
Triumph Speed Tripple
Honda VFR
Yamaha F1/6
FJR1300
ST1300
I'm sure there are others.

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? I got to ride my dad's Road King a couple of times this summer. I think it would be fun to have another ride in the stable. But I will not give up the CBR, I find it is WAY more comfortable to ride. It gets old sitting in a "slouched" position for too long
NOTE: You should add another section of "will someday have both a sportbike and cruiser" |

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? I have some seat time on a Shadow 750 as well and while it was fun to puttz around town with it there's no way I'd take something like that any farther than an hour or two. As the bike sits stock there is no room to adjust your riding position. I'm sure there are things you can do to it, but I'd much rather have a sport tourer. |

I don't know what I would do with heated seats and gips | I haven't, but a friend of mine who is a diehard sportbike rider/racer had the opportunity to try one. He took his girlfriend on a two-day ride and they both loved it. He said it handled suprisingly well, had plenty of power, and was comfortable/fun enough that neither wanted to quit riding at the end of the day. |

One day I got a bit spunky and tore a peg feeler off and put a pavement buffing on the pipe heat shield That said it rocks on dirt unlinke the RR

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? I'll probably never own a cruiser. Probably. I'd be more inclined to get a sport-tourer, or something more upright, but with my feet underneath me.
If I had to pick a cruiser, though, it'd be the Victory Hammer. |

After a lot of track riding, sport-biking on the street just isn't that appealing. So I bought an ST1300 for some sport-touring duty. It's all-day comfy and still scoots pretty good.
Cruisers serve the specific purpose of trying to impress with their appearance. They don't do anything else very well. Why not buy a bike thats more comfortable than your sportbike but still has other capabilities? Sport-tourer, luxo-tourer, dual-sport, adventure-tourer, etc. |

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? I own an 800+ pound touring cruiser (the dreaded Vulcan Nomad Valdez) and it serves it's designed purpose very well. My feet are underneath me, you don't need to slump when riding and it handles just like any behemoth that size on 2 wheels would. It is extremely comfortable and has decent power and brakes. Ridden within it's design envelope, it doesn't drag anything and other than a bit of harshness when going over good sized bumps at over 60 mph, it really is difficult to fault this somewhat evolved beast. |

| Re: Cruisers.... that bad??? Oh boy, the true colors of FB.org are coming out. A bunch of cruisers in squid clothing. We'd exile Abtech but he gets us a good deal on the best track days in the world so we'll make an allowance for him. The rest of you, for shame. My Monster is as close as I'll ever see to a cruiser or an ST3 that might be looming in my future for a cross-country trip. |
