| Re: I would like a louder exhaust Well whatever your reason (read: rationalization), there are several makers for pipes for the Shadow. Especially because the bike was virtually the same form the early 80's through the 90's. It seems like I have heard of someone taking out the baffles from the stock ones too. |

| Re: I would like a louder exhaust Cut out the stock guts out of the stock muffler. Is this okay to do? It is louder but also sounds like a rice burner car. |

Not looking to spend allot of money. | There are plenty of other ways to let cars know you're there. And they're cheaper than exhaust mods.
From what I've seen, it doesn't matter what you do, you're invisible in anything smaller than a Suburban. Wear bright colored, reflective clothing and keep your thumb over the horn button. |

to quote Pete "you are just flat-out phucking WRONG, BITCH!" it doesn't matter what you're driving, they just don't see you. Last night I was halfway across the intersection and the dumb bitch took the left in front of me. I was in a ****ing tractor trailer, it don't get no bigger than that. |

| Re: I would like a louder exhaust Cobra is popular with Honda Cruisers. Not sure on how loud they are though. There is another brand that is fairly large and fits Hondas well but it is escaping me right now, sorry.

| Re: I would like a louder exhaust Another that is popular on VTX models is Bub. Though I am not positive they make one for yours. The Bub pipes seem well made and fairly large.

| Re: I would like a louder exhaust I've had the following on my VTX: - Stock. My favorite looking pipes on the bike, but actually made a "puffing" sound when idling and decelerating. I always laughed at the Honda ads that said the bike "sounds unreal." Maybe so, but not in a good way. - Roadhouse Slip-ons. Closest to the stockers I've seen. Build quality was ok. Sound was terrible. Much louder, but very tinny and gurgled/backfired embarassingly. The wife refused to ride two-up with these installed. - Stock, modified. Sent the mufflers out to be modified. They pulled the guts, put in 3" pipes. Polished, repacked, and sent back to me. Again, I kept the stock look which I loved and the sound was much better. I ran a power-commander too, which helped but there was still a lot of backfiring and gurgling. It also lacked the deep sound I wanted. - Vance and Hines Big Shots. These are on the bike and will be remaining there. Outstanding fit and finish. Deepest sound I've heard on a VTX, kind of like a muscle car. The Retro pipes come with baffles installed and I never plan on removing them. The pipes are loud, but can be kept to a respectable level when leaving my neighborhood in the morning if I'm careful. I was in search of a deep sounding pipe that wasn't obnoxious and these are hands-down the ones.
Try some message boards for suggestions on your particular bike. You can browse here Honda VTX Owners and I'm sure someone there can point you in the right direction. |

| Re: I would like a louder exhaust I have 80,000 miles with a stock exhaust on the street and haven't had to use the horn button once.
If everyone could make their exhaust louder to be heard, the noise inflation would rise to the moon. Not to mention it doesn't work! |
