Is he a Harley guy? On your bike I think you will find that the 'gearbox' is in with the clutch and engine. Thus an oil change does what he recommends.

If you define stuck I might be able to provide some info though as at 8K there should be no issues on that trans.

Re: lubricating my gearbox, need help.....

well if i'm driving down the road and coming up on a red or whatever i pull in the clutch and go to kick it down and it'll only go down into 2nd and wont go into 1st or nuetral, so usually i shift it back up and kick it down hard and that sometimes works, or i let out the clutch until it grabs a little then pull it back in and try again and sometimes that works. it has only done it twice in the last 400 miles. my dad said something about putting new gear oil in it but like i said i kno nothing about bikes i just started riding 500 miles ago. thanks.

Changing the engine oil might help, like sheep said. Also adjust the tension on the clutch cable. I think your bike has a cable...hmmm, not positive.

How fast are you going when you are coming to a stop and try and put it into first?

Re: lubricating my gearbox, need help.....

No concern I thought this might be the case. Either slip the clutch some after downshift or when stopped then downshift more. My RR does the same thing on coasting multiple downshifts on occasion. If you just lightly engage the gear it drops the rest of the way in and you can continue to downshift.

If the clutch is hydraulic, check fluid level; it may not be fully disengaging. Shifting will be difficult. Those hydraulic clutches are sneaky about that. If the rear wheel rotates with the clutch squeezed up on the center stand, its time for a master cylinder rebuild kit.

Don't be forcing anything. If you have a bent shift fork, you'll just bend it more.
I think your dad had his tounge planted firmly in his cheek when he told you that..
