Shadow 750 C2 Crankcase noise

I just bought a 2007 Honda Shadow Spirit C2 ..
Its making a noise that sounds like its coming from the crankcase.
Not the sound of a rod or anything .. more like a taping that
matches the bike vibration somewhat and RPM ..
( yes I am taking it back to the dealer, just curious what you folks
think it might be )
The one thing that doesnt have me immediately worried is that
if I put it in gear and start to let out the clutch .. the noise stops..
The Dealers techie said something about the clutch basket perhaps.
My neighbor, a diehard honda owner says possible the drive chain

Any thoughts from the multitudes?
Other then that it seems to ride fine, and also corners just fine regardless
of what everyone is saying in the other thread about cruisers being bad .. lol

I have been checking the oil .. its fine ..
and it has plenty of power for me ..
Broke it in according to what I researched on the net and what the dealer said .. ( yes, I behaved myself .. )

I dont remember the noise in the beginning and it did get louder for awhile .. ( I think ) but now seems to stay the same .. perhaps a little louder
when the bike is warmed up and the oil is thinner ..

So anyways .. hi to all .. thanks for any inputs ..
I'm new to the forum here and new to Hondas ..

Randy

Your drive chain? That C2 is a shaft drive. I just picked up a chain drive 750 myself and I'll let you know if I have the same noise. First gear will almost always give you some gear wine from the gear box. It has on every Honda I've had including dirt bikes.

Sorry let me clarify .. yes its a shaft drive ..
I mean the chain that drives the clutch ..
BUT .. tonite .. I put my hand over the housing in the clutch area
and could actually feel whatever it is , tapping the housing ..
And when I start to let out the clutch , it goes away ..
I did the same thing with the other side of the housing , where I
believe might be a drive gear?? and it feeling is much LESS noticeable ..

Do wet clutches make a whiring sound normally??
And yeah .. I do hear that transmission like you said ..
in first , second and a little bit in third .. I just figured it
was normal for a shaft drive ??? Am I wrong about that??

Thanks again ..

Randy

Most bikes will have a little clutch noise. Ever heard a Ducati? It's a dry clutch and rings like a telephone when engaged. Annoying to some and music to others. I'd take it by the dealer and have someone listen to it. It's most likely normal and if it's your first bike, it's just something to get used to. My 929 had some funny noises too and it was normal. My CRF230 has a howling gear wine in first.

This would be noise besides / other than the normal clutch noise.
I do hear the clutch and the trannie .. This is a wet clutch .. makes kind of a whiring ( sp ) sound .. That I figured is normal ... This is my 4th bike .. never heard this kind of noise before . Have heard the typical pinging from a dirt bike .. and some noise in my kawasaki 440 LTD ... but nothing quite like this and nothing that I could FEEL when I touched the crankcase side cover , which also went away when I even slight started to engage the clutch .

Thanks all ..

Randy

They are supposed to look at it next tuesday ..
I am hoping they figure it out and dont just try to blow me off ..

I have the 2007 C2 and mine makes the same noise as described. I just turned mine in to the dealership and they are going to tear it down and see if they can find the problem.

I will post again to let you know the results in a week.

Re: Shadow 750 C2 Crankcase noise

ok, from what they are telling me at the Honda shop, the sound is normal and all bijes have it but some are louder than others. Mine was VERY loud so they pulled it apart and found a bushing with a sprocket on it that was loose fitting, They are replacing that with a new one and I should have my bike back in a week. It is July 4th week so it is taking a while to get the new part in but once they get it in it will only take an hour and a half to get the bike back together.

Hope this is helpful.

Re: Shadow 750 C2 Crankcase noise

They tore the bike apart and replaced the part they said was causing the problem but the noise is still there and it is just as loud as it ever has been. The noise just gets louder and louder till it reaches a point and then just stays loud. Good luck to the rest of you with this bike. I know I will not buy another one.
