'86 CB700SC boke part in Tranny

'86 CB700SC boke part in Tranny

Hello! I just pulled a 700SC motor to look at a 1st gear issue. Basically the guy I bought it from laid it down and it wouldn't go out of 1st gear.

When I pulled it, dropped the pan and took out the oil pump I found 4 parts laying in the gears... I looked at all the parts listing from bikebandit and couldn't find anything even remotely looking like it.

Does anyone here know what these parts are and where they go? I seriously am at a loss, all I know is that they were sitting on the gears making them not shift. Bike shifts well now, but I'd rather find out what these parts are before putting the motor back in.

Any ideas?!?

Found it. It was a chain tensioner. Apparently the way it broke was the bending of the motor as it hit the ground caused the guard to slap the chain, get stock then pop off, which then got stuck in the gear shifter drums, hence the motor ran great but you couldn't shift out of first.

Unfortunetly that part requires a 34 step process of dismantling the transmission to get to it. I chose plan B. Throw it back together as is and ride it until it blows up. So far so good. LOL

I had the same broken parts in my 86 cb700sc. I have it tore down right now. The part is discontinued from honda. I am searching for a used one. Is your bike still going? Thanks c-ya.

Holy Jesus its been over a year LOL. Hey man yah it works fine without that guard. Prolly when the chain wears down or what not I'll have an issue, but for the price I paid I'm not worried about it.

Mine was a pretty clean break though. I found the part name by getting the service manual from ebay on CD btw. It cost $15 and is well worth it. Just watch out, you HAVE TO TAKE THE VALVE COVERS OFF to take the motor out of the frame. Just believe me on this one dude!

Also remember where all the **** went for the oil pump, its a PITA.

I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't look like that rod does too much. But I wasn't as lucky as you on the tranny. It took out a shift fork and broke the transmission mainshaft and a gear. Luckily I found all those parts on ebay pretty cheap. But nobody seems to have the tensioner. It is discontinued from Honda. How many miles have you put on it without the tensioner rod? Later.
