Honda CL360 1975 Reverse Polarity Issue

Hello,
Not sure if this is the right place, but thought I'd try.
I bought a new 'identical' battery for my cl360. It was identical but for the and - being swapped round. My idiocy for not checking and assuming they would be the same. FUnny thing is the batter doesn't fit the other way round in the bike. Anyway, the battery was switched on for around 4 seconds and burt through one wire, which has been fixed, but I need to reverse the polarity, and was hoping someone might have a quick fix for this issue. Any ideas?

With a fully charged battery, the bike will idle for around 15 seconds then the electrics go dead. I'm guess the spark plugs are drawing heavy voltage with reverse polarity. Any info on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Jonney

Some models of batteries are sold two-ways. You bought the wrong one.

Is the battery connected in correctly now?

Have you checked the stator and regulator/rectifier?

Thanks for the swift reply.

The old battery is in there now, it still has some juice, and it is correctly fitted.

I have not checked those two. What should I be looking for? I'm a novice at bike mechanics.

Cheers,
Jonney

I have the rectifier, but how do I check it to see if I need to replace it?
