| V65 Magna 1100, best inexpensive parts? I am posting for my father, who owns an early 80s V65 1100. Sadly, it isnt running right. He is a really busy guy, but we are coming into summer, I want to go for a ride with my father. (I ride a 1993 ZX-11, but he still goes into the corners harder and faster than I do.)
The problem is in the carburetors and the rear brake caliper. He doesnt want to deal with used parts, he is afraid that he would have the same problems again. The rear brake caliper is sticking, so much so that if he uses the rear brake in the driveway, he cant push it into the garage. The carbs just need to-built or replaced.
As you can guess, a middle aged man on an 80s magna cant afford to use parts made of sollid gold, but I was hoping someone might know where I can get an aftermarket rear caliper, instead of paying full price for a honda brand part. Also, if we were to pull the carbs off the bike, where could we send them to be re-built. Honestly, the price range is under $200 (For the carbs).
Please, any info ya'll got will help. Im new to working on bikes, and I dont know much about what all this entails. I have worked on cars, even done an engine swap on a camaro, changed from F.I. to carbed and everything. I dont think this goes above my ability, but I want some more information. |

Hi I have been pricing rebuild kits and you cannot find one for under $90.00 that have all of the parts that you need to do a good rebuild, which include new needles and seats, gaskets, bowl screws, and main jets. There is a place on Ebay that sell rebuilt carbs which they say have been bench syn'd.etc, but they also want $389.00 for them, but they will give you a discount if you send them you're old carbs. They also have the rebuild kits for sale. It is not all that difficult to rebuild them youreself you need to atleast bench syn them before installing them then it is best to syn them with a syncronizer after installing them to get the best proformance from them. Hope this helps you. |

As for the brake, I just buff the pistons with crocus cloth and silicon grease 'em, then clean up the pin bolt and the sleeve and make sure they're well greased. New pin boots should help. bikebandit.com or many other online suppliers. Did a google search on
"Discount Motorcycle Parts". Gave me several sources to pick from. |

| Re: V65 Magna 1100, best inexpensive parts? SIR, if you only plan to spend $200.00 I would not plan on your father riding, you know the old saying you get what you pay for! (it cost me $400.00 7 years ago)
but I just wanted to tell you I have the v65 magna 1984 and have had it for 10 years and it has always run beautiful!! besides the normal up-keep it has treated me perfectly!! I plan to buy a new bike and I would not buy anything but HONDA. so always buy HONDA parts!! and no I don't work for HONDA Quote:
