1981 CM400Custom Tires

I recently inherited an older 1981 Honda CM400Custom with about 2000 miles on it from my Grandfather. At 82 he thinks he is getting to old to ride anymore, so he decided I should add the bike to my stable.

This bike was bought brand new by him in 1983 from a local dealer. It has the original tires on it. It has always been kept in a warm non-sunlight garage in Wisconsin. There are no visible cracking or bulging on the sidewalls of the tires. They are in perfect condition with nearly all the tread left. They hold air perfectly. I've been checking them frequently. My Grandfather told me he would fill them in the spring, just to make sure, and they would keep the same PSI all summer and fall.

My question is this: Despite the excellent condition of the tires, should they be replaced due to age? Does the rubber deteriorate to the point I should be worried about a blow-out?

What do you guys think?

I would - they must deteriorate somehow, I wouldnt want to find out when riding. They might surprise you and be perfect but rather be safe.
You might want to take her round to yr local tyre shop and ask them to check them out - they must be able to spot any problems upfront.
