Choke Question

I'm very new to the world of bikes. Let me say that up front. I've been told that bikes are cold natured machines. With that said...

If my bike has completely cooled down from a ride, and if it's pretty much not in direct sunlight I have to choke it to start it. Which may be normal, but it takes forever. If I hold the choke out for 30 seconds, it will still be ready to die as soon as I let go. And if I let the choke in and open the throttle, I have to do so for quite a bit before it clears out. (Even then, it doesn't really clear out until I get going and get in third).

Now I'm too new to know if this is normal, or if this is an issue. I have a 2006 Honda Shadow Spirit in very nice condition with factory exhausts - pretty much everything factory installed.

Any help or advice would be great guys.
