82 Magna hard time running

Today I was pulling out of my parking lot and my bike lost all power, and would not run unless you were giving it full throttle and It was barely running then. When this happened the tachometer also would not work. But about 10 minutes later it would run just like nothing happened I don't know a lot about trouble shooting bikes but I can fix them. It is an 82 Magna v45 with 16000 miles on it, it has also sat around for quite a while

Re: 82 Magna hard time running

Sounds similar to an issue I had with my 84 V65 Sabre several years ago. It turned out to one of the sparkboxes. There are two sparkboxes, one of each pair of cylinders. The tach signal is tapped off of one of the boxes and when the box goes bad you lose the tach and the power to 2 sparkplugs. The Sabre would start and run rough, but had no "oomph" because only 2 cylinders were firing. Good luck.
