Need help

Hey there everyone. Thank you for this great forum. I am an owner of a 1999 Honda Shadow 600 deluxe and I love it. I was hoping for some help though. I recently broke the left rear turn signal housing. Don't ask how. Anyway I ordered the part and it will be here any day now. My question is this. Is it fairly simple to replace and how would I go about doing it? Any help would be great. Look forward to meeting all of you! Thanks!

Re: Need help

I replaced one on my '06 Shadow Spirit. Probably the same type as yours. I had to drop my rear fender which was easy since it is plastic and run the wires through the back of the battery box area. It's pretty simple actually, just remove the seat and rear fender and change out the part. Unplug the old one and plug in the new one and bolt it on.

Re: Need help

Thanks for the tip. I am going to work on it this weekend hopefully if the part comes in. Sounds like it won't be so bad but everytime I say that it usually turns into a nightmare!

Re: Need help

Wasn't a nightmare but it was a little time consuming to trace it all down. I actually thought I could do it without taking the fender off, wrong. I spent more time trying to avoid further disassembly than it would have taken to just take it apart the correct way first. Mine was a little more complicated since I have the Honda backrest and luggage rack installed which has to come off since the hardware threads through the fender.

Re: Need help

Sounds like it wasn't too bad. I don't have any thing like a rack or even a sissy bar on mine. Just a passenger seat on the back fender. I took a look at it yesterday and I think I may have to take the rear fender off too. The turn signal comes right off the side of that chrome sidebar so it may be the only way. I will keep you posted.

Re: Need help

Hey Smketr it wasn't too bad. Mainly just unbolted the seat, undid the chrome mounting bar on the side of the bike, unbolted the old assembly and traced the wires back to the plug. Hardest part was making sure I didn't scratch any paint while taking apart and putting back together! Thanks for the help.

Re: Need help

Glad to hear it all worked out. I actually enjoy quality time in the garage working on my bikes. I don't enjoy looking at damage (caused by my wife) but adding accessories and changing out small parts is rather therapeutic for me.
