2007 Shadow Spirit 1100 Question

First post in the forums!

So I am going to sound like a fool asking this BUT I simply cannot find any information on this ANYWHERE and I have searched all over. What is roughly the redline for a 2007 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100? Appreciate the time!

Re: 2007 Shadow Spirit 1100 Question

Nothing?

The reason I am asking is a buddy of mine rode with me one day and told me I need to "open up the throttle" more and I was "babying" the engine.

Obviously being a new bike (and my first) I am a little hesitant to just open the throttle up and keep it at 4-5-6k rpms constant if it's not good for it. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

I don't have an exact answer to your question, but it would help to know whether it is a new bike or one with some miles on it.

It's a 2007, but it only had 1500 on it when I bought it, so brand new almost.

Re: 2007 Shadow Spirit 1100 Question

It's broke in, let er rip!

I'm thinking around 8k or so for V-twins. I know I shift when I hear the rev limiter on my Shadow.

I don't rev the piss out of mine but staying in the rev range where you have good throttle response is the place to be to get out of trouble quickly if needed. It's a Honda, you aren't going to hurt it.

When it starts blowing oil out on your right leg, you've been a little hard on it. It will blow out the relief valve by the air cleaner if the pressure is too high. This only happened once on one of my Shadows while trying a top speed run in 5th gear. I guess that was a little too hard on it. I checked the oil and it was fine and that was a few thousand miles ago and the bike is fine.

It also happened once on my buddies Vulcan 2000 when he encouraged me to let it rip to feel the power but he had grossly over filled the oil the day before, his fault. It blew out a lot and the dipstick was still wet all the way to the top. I should have rode it longer.

Re: 2007 Shadow Spirit 1100 Question

Thanks man! I figured 8k was *probably* the redline but I wasn't sure. you pretty much said what my buddy said: "Dude it's a Honda.. you aren't going to hurt it."

I think I'll stay away from the rev limiter, however

80 degrees and clear this Sunday... planning on a nice 3 hour ride ! ! !

Re: 2007 Shadow Spirit 1100 Question

When I first got my Shadow 750, I had just totalled my 929 and was used to a very high reving inline 4 cylinder that you hardley ever had to shift around town. I rode that 929 for over 6 years. Once I got some miles on the Shadow and broke it in properly, I started really riding it. Being used to an inline, I quickly found that the twin didn't like to rev and found the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear. It's designed like that for a reason and the occasional rev limiter hit is not going to hurt the bike. Same thing with my CRF250R when I hit the rev limiter on a panic rev while jumping.

If I remember correctly, most aftermarket tachs for twins are around 8k or so. The cruisers aren't going to rev up like the RC51's and the SV's. So enjoy your big Shadow and let it rip when it's safe to do so.
