VTX 1300 Dies and very tired on restart?

My 04 VTX 1300 C has been dying while riding it lately and i cant find the reason. There is something either mechanically wrong or Electrically wrong with the bike that is causing this issue.

Issues:
1) dies while riding, low RPM, High RPM, Mid RPM, Witch clutch in, With clutch out, moving or sitting at Idel.

2) have drained and refilled the gas tank and went through the fuel hoses to the carb with no issues.

3) totally random, happened after a 2 hour ride and after starting.

4) once it happens takes anywhere from 1 to 20 tries to get the engine to re start

5) the engine turns but acts like there is no gas/ or air. But never smells totally flooded, but after 5 attempts of the engine spinning or so I do smell gas.

6) i ran carb cleaner through about 500 miles ago when i took it out of storage in April. No issues until one random day 2 weeks ago. had this problem ever since.

any ideas? its driving me nuts and i dont want to wait a month for the honda service department to have time to look at it in 30 days!

Please help so i can ride my cruiser again!

Take a look on the 1300 forums on VTXOA.com

You'll probably have better luck and may even find someone who has dealt with the exact problem on their VTX.

Thank you for the responses. I will check out VTXOA and see if they have more VTX owners there.

I did change the plugs and wash the K&N air filter. But same result aftwards.

Have you had your right rear cylinder head plastic thingie-ma-gig off lately?; the breather tube is routed over the cylinder cover. It could be pinched. Happened to me. When I took the cylinder cover off ( the plastic piece that hides the rear right spark plug), I heard an air-rushing sound. After I re-routed the breather tube so that it wasn't pinched, everything worked just fine.

Re: VTX 1300 Dies and very tired on restart?

Thanks everyone for your responses! I ended up having to take the bike to Honda who had it for about a month before it was fixed. It ended up being a plugged component in the carb by a piece of sand or something small. it took 3 carb cleaning to get it out. 1 cleaning by me, and 2 cleanings by the shop. Whatever was hiding in there was hard to flush out.

For the lesson Learned:

All VTX (or cruiser owners whos bikes dont have fuel filters. Go buy a cheap little aftermarke fuel filter and splice it on the fuel pipe before it reaches the carb becuase the cheap little rubber fuel screen does not do a very good job against tiny debris in the gas!
