CM400 Piston Ring Change

I always start a new thread when i'm about to start a project to make sure i have a place to go if i get lost.

here's what i know: Bad compression in one cylinder, black smoke coming from the pipe from that tube, oil leaking all over from the seam between the cylinder and the cylinder head. I have a new head gasket and and tearing the engine down to see if i need to rebore the cylinders or if i can just replace the rings.

if anyone has any advice or ideas, the bike's a 1980 CM400E i'd welcome any help.
