| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) So I have spent more time riding than working on deamon lately (not a bad thing) but I have done a few minor things and wanted to put them up here. not because I think anyone really cares that I changed the spark plugs but more as a log to know what I have done to the bike and when so I can track it over the long haul.
I changed the spark plugs, one was amazingly loose. I'm lucky it didnt blow straight out of the hole while riding.
I have also began to make progress on water proofing the ground effect light I am going to install. it was originally a neon light from a subwoofer bandpass box. so its not really water tight. I have sealed all the seams with plastic bond silicone, as well as installed the on/off switch in a removable cover and siliconed the backside of it so water penetration should be eliminated from getting at the back of the switch. I'll get some pictures of it once I clean up the excess silicone. I have still got to figure out exactly where I want to mount it for the best lighting effect. |

| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) ok so I'm lazy and forgot to take the pictures of the neon. sorry.
but I just changed out the fork seals. I am so glad I had the Clymer manual (just got it the other day love it). the book couldn't have made my job any easier unless it came with all the tools you need to work on the bike.
removing spring retaining clips without the tool is a pain in the.. well you know but, over all it took 3 hours to do both sides. If I had had the tool for the retaining clips it would have only been about an hour and a half. took it for a quick spin and she really doesnt feel much different except the front end doesnt drop as far when I brake. (found out I have to be carefull accellerating out of corners it will lift the front tire off the ground if I give it too much) 'bought gave my self a heart attack.
I gotta take it over to the air strip and see excatly how much I can give the bike before lifting the tire, I dont want to goose it too hard at the wrong time. and I definatly dont want to try to figure it out on the street, to many other things to pay attention to. possibly adjust my suspension to help prevent that. any how. thats the latest progress on the deamon. |

| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) ok here a good update on rust deamons progress. I have stripped and painted the front fender side cover and gas tank. still have to do the rear fender. this winter I will get around to painting the engine I think. I'll have the headers done in the next couple weeks I found an inexpensive way to get them ceramic coated (I think, not 100% yet) gotta work on cleaning out and insulating the garage so I will be able to heat it without it costing me an arm and a leg.
but any how here is the newest picture of the deamon with its new skin http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q...e/DSCN4208.jpg |

| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) yeah progress is slow but steady. I figure another season or three and she'll be tip top.
I got the stuff to do yet another oil change (be the fourth one so far) I need to crack open the case and get a look at the clutch and see if I have a warped clutch plate, or grooves worn in the basket preventing it from completely disengaging, it has a slight drag at all times so its a pain to get into first. fortunatly oil was on sale this week (bout time) 14$ for 4 quarts of synthetic. wo hoooooo!
came across another minor problem the motor when hot is starting to not come back off a high idle when I pull the clutch in and let off the throttle, I think the recoil cable may be broken/disconnected. if I let off the clutch it drops back to where it should be but I dont like it ramping up/staying ramped up when I am trying to up shift tried greasing my cables to see if that solved it no go on that. now I have to tear into it unfortunatly the cable ends under the gas tank so I have to lift that to seal what the deal is. |

| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) this winter should be good, for getting more done on the bike. I spent a lot of time this fall re-doing my garage, setting it up with spare work benches, peg boards, more outlets, better lighting, and slowly adding more tools. All I am missing is a good heater and insulation for it, trying to find a decent heater that wont risk burning down my garage, I do have electric heaters but they dont work very well. I also dont have enough insulation to do a proper job of insulating right now, maybe next year. I wouldnt mind finding a used forced hot air furnace or maybe even one of those moniter heaters as I am close to set up for either propane or K1 heat.
I'll post some after pictures in the next couple days and see if I can find some shots of the mess the garage was before. |

| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) OH, almost forgot. I cracked open the case and its definatly a warped clutch plate causing the drag. had to fabricate a special clip for holding the clutch basket in place (on this bike if your clutch basket slips out you have to drop the engine to re-align the shifter and basket gears.) it wasnt nearly as tough as I though it would be. good enough for now, later this winter I will order all new clutch plates.
still havent figured out the idle problem when hot, but I think the carbs need to be cleaned, the throttle flapper gets stuck open when hot I can reach down and spin it back by hand but I shouldnt have to do that. we'll see when I crack into it.
hopefully I can get some braided brake lines at some point this winter too.
now that snow is flying, riding season is over for me this year. Its now officially parts play time. she's going to look like a whole new bike, next year. I found a guy that wants to airbrush my tank gas, for free, just to get his art out there. sweet. probably have him do something on the front fender too. |

| Re: Rust demon: the ressurection (aka rebuild thread) hopefully tommorow I'll have some pics of my garage once I get the foam board cleared out. there is still a bit of work to go in there, I'm also installing a 250w halide light out front of the garage for yard stuff for the next summer. some times its better to work outside.
I'm looking for some inspiration on what my first course of action should be one this bike. I know I am doing more to the paint, I have to remove the red reflector tape and switch it to white so it matches the paint scheme better.
What I really need is a nice welder, and a bunch of metal to play with..... its a pain in the backside to go use a welder. I just need one on hand at all times so when inspiration strikes at 3 am I can go weld...... |
