Is there a gas tank that is bigger than the tank I now have (stock CM400). Mine holds about 2.5 gallons or 9.5 liters. Is there another Honda tank that would fit? Perhaps a 650? or even the 750? Has anyone ever hacked this bike up with a different capacity tank?

if you want a bigger tank be prepared to chop and weld. 2.5 is stock for most. if you dont like hacking and welding, well..... sorry.

I am not aware of a stock tank much larger. (for a straight bolt on fit)

Well the 450 550 and 650 of similar years had larger capacity tanks. I was hoping someone had done a swap with one of those.

like I said "I" am not aware of a larger tank that will bolt straight on. I have been looking around for a larger tank for my shadow 700, and every larger tank I have found has a different mounting position so far. there very well could be a good straight bolt on from one of those models you listed. the easiest way would, I guess, be to measure the mounting brakets and their positions. or do the "flip" test (take your tank and flip it belly to belly with one of those others) and see if the brackets are in the same place.

I definatly wasnt saying there isnt one that will fit. but I was saying that in my expirience the chances are fairly slim for a perfect fit without at least some modifications.

hopefuly some one may have had some first hand expirience with the models your listing and be able to chime in and tell me I'm a fool and point you in the right direction

Yes, there are larger tanks that are a direct replacement.
The largest tank is a 3.7 gallon unit from any CM400E or a 1978 CB400T
The next largest is the 3.4 gallon unit from 1979/80/81 CB400 T or A
The smallest is 2.6 gallons on the rest of the CM's.
Good luck finding an E tank for a reasonable price.
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you the big tank is not very pretty.

Sorry, I forgot to add All CM450's and the CB450T have 3.4 gallon tanks
The CB450sc has a 3.2 gallon tank
