to whit I answer, as mentioned in the first reply its hypoid gear oil DO NOT use engine oil in your gearbox. ensure that you find your manufacturers recomended hypoid gear oil rating and use only that.
there is a serious viscosity difference between the two that would lead to excessive wear and rapid deterioration of your gears. unlike your engine that has a pump to pump the oil to the top and let it wash back down over your internal motor parts, your gear box only has the lower sections of the gears resting in a bath and require a higher viscosity to transfer the oils upwards when the parts are in motion (basicly the oil sticks to the parts and gets carried upwards by the motions of the parts) |
