Backfiring on a 1998 VT 1100 Shadow ACE
I am new to this site and have a question. I have owned my 1998 Shadow VT 1100 for about 6 years. It only has 6100 miles on it. I didn't ride it last summer (started it a few times) but left gas in it over this last winter. I added Stabilizer in the fuel last fall. I charged the battery and fired it up last week and it began backfiring at higher RPM's. I checked the plugs and they looked like they were fouled with moderate carbon. I replaced the plugs, drained the old fuel and added fresh fuel and it still did it. Would this be a timing issue, a fuel mixture issue or a jetting issue?? Any help on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.
