Is the wheel damaged?
Very unusual, what makes you sure it's not the tyre or valve that leaks?

Yeah, the previous owner hit a curb. The rim is chipped, we sprayed all around it with soapy water to find the leak

Bugger.
You can use wheels from 929, 954 and 1000RR up to '07 if you don't mind the slightly different appearance. They all bolt straight in.

If I was to buy just the wheels of a 954 would I need 954 barrings and everything or would I need the 954 parts? Sorry first time I have had to deal with wheels

Nope, the wheels are a straight swap, everything is identical.
The 1000RR rear wheel you will need the sprocket carrier as well as the bearing is set up slightly differently, but it is still a straight bolt-in swap as well.
