2004-2007 CBR1000RR Phone Mount Question

Hi all,

Usually i am not a poster to really any forum, mainly because i swap motorcycles and cars so often, and usually i can just find answers with the search feature, but im in a bit of a pickle.

Early 2016 i picked up a 2004 CBR1000RR (proceeded to lay it down and rebuild it a few months later) to replace my old RC51, and i wanted to pick up a phone mount as well. Problem is, i cant find any that work due to the stabilizer position. i wouldnt mind a handle bar mount one, but even so, i cant find any that would guarantee work on my bike (there is one motorcycle shop within a reasonable distamce from me, and they dont carry any in stock to test). The other solution i was informed about was a suction cup mount on my tank, but i dont like that idea partially because i dont trust it, and partially because i take a few long trips per year with a tank bag. The same mount SHOULD work for anything from 2004-2007, so anyone with experience would be greatly appreciated.

If this has been answered and i just missed it, a link to the thread and to where i could buy the mount would be best, just because i know its an older bike, and im worried some stuff may no longer be available from a supplier.

Doesn't the CBR1000RR already have a damper, i.e. the HESD?

Maybe you can use a RAM grip for your phone and then change the mount type to go on your handlebars? Might have to make your own bracket.

Re: 2004-2007 CBR1000RR Phone Mount Question

I assume a tankbag with mobile compartment is out of the question? How about the mounts that bolt to the gas tank cap assembly? At one time, that's what was used to mount video recorders. (excuse me, my 1995 is showing again)

Yeah... its just not "tight" enough... if that makes sense? ive ridden a Daytona 675 with a handle bar mount and i loved the positioning. And the tank cap is covered by the tank bag im like 99% sure... i bought the tank bag at the end of the season and have only used it a few times, but im pretty sure thats the case...

Re: 2004-2007 CBR1000RR Phone Mount Question

I could only think maybe fashioning one out of a bicycle mount for a phone and some kind of clamp from a hardware store that could be attached to your triple? Most of the phone mounts I see are geared toward Harley's with their actual handlebars rather than clip ons..... I'm sure there is one out there for sportbikes- it is just a matter of finding one you trust with your phone (likely 10x more expensive than the mount lol)

I would think you could find something made by RAM mounts that would work. They have all kinds of different mounting options available.

Cars, well you see, they are just objects to dodge.

It just needs some thinking about, I mounted my TomTom on my '94 blade using a mirror stem mount on the fairing frame, works a treat

Re: 2004-2007 CBR1000RR Phone Mount Question

Thanks guys! yeah i was hoping there would just be a "plug and play" option, but it seems ill need to piece something together.

And Spaz,

I cant use that due to the 2004-2007 CBR1000RR's having their steering stabilizer right there, there is no visible hex there. Trust me, that was my first thought, but yeah it does not work.

Sure it won't 'just' clear it, with a longer mount arm?

Re: 2004-2007 CBR1000RR Phone Mount Question

The HESD system almost completely blocks the steering stem nut if I remember correctly. I'd be out of luck on the 54 too since my Ohlins damper's bracket positions the damper above the nut. Push comes to shove my damper will save me life before a GPS would =)

LOL at any Fireblade ever needing a steering damper, a mask for poorly setup bike is all they are for the road.

Re: 2004-2007 CBR1000RR Phone Mount Question

Even the best suspension cannot stop a headshake coming out of a turn with the front end too-light to keep proper tracking. Been there, done that, got the underpants. It may not be of use all-the-time, but neither is car insurance. I bet you still have insurance though....
