Service manual states using a peak voltage meter to check the cps, i don't have one, nor will i be buying one. If i have a digital fluke, and see no movement on the meter at all during the cps test, is the cps farked, or will i not see it without a PVM?
Doesn't the fluke have a max voltage capture facility (AC!)? Mine does. I've never needed to do this, but have you disconnected the CPS and connected it direct to the meter? And cranking the engine? forgive the dumb question, but you never know with some folk....If everything set up as per the manual, and still no flicker, then yes it's toast.
A bit more info here:
Ok i see about 0.7 volts now on AC I'm starting to think i've fried the CDI, i had a coil shooting to the block for about a minute, before it cut out, that must have done it
Yeah seen loads of how to build your own, my level of GAF never reaches that though . I can see roughly 0.7 on the digital multimeter i have, just no capacitor to catch the peak, but i'm fairly happy it's reaching that, i'm convinced the CDI is farked now.
