Re: Sprocket Selection - vs - Wheelbase

I've been a bit curious about the relative change in wheelbase with different sprocket sets, so here is what I came up with.

PRELIMINARY - If someone could check the numbers, I would appreciate it...I make a lot of typos.

Assumptions:
108 Link Chain
Equivalent Slack Settings

This is not an endorsement of suitability, I merely used the ratios mentioned as being used successfully by other members.

Caveats:
*Tire Clearance
*Chain Clearance
These issues have been discussed in other threads, and it would be wise to check your combination before installation.

Another way to do it is each link is 19mm pin-to-pin so each --and the fact that the wheelbase will change approx (w/o compenstating for angle) 1/2 of the added links---

The chart assumes use of a 5XX chain with 108 links, and shows the wheelbase delta due to changing sprockets.

Not that it matters, but the pitch is 15.875mm.

Baketech,

What about 16/46? I'm curious to see how it compares to 15/45.

16/46 would give you almost the exact same ratio as the 15/43.....but would be ~ 0.51' shorter than stock. Seriously doubt that it would work with a stock length chain......

Thanks! Wow over 1/2', that's pretty crazy!

I'm planning on changing to a 520 when I get my 954 swingarm, so I'm not too worried about the chain length. I'm just trying to find the best combination before I send DK another $227!
