| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation I decided to bust out the wallet and have Dan Kyle redo my forks and buy an Ohlins shock. For those of you who have an Ohlins rear on your 929, where did you locate the remote preload adjuster? I've removed my passenger pegs long ago and have a Devil hi-mount exhaust so mounting it to the peg bracket is out. Can you mount it on either side of the bike (preferably to the subframe)? Anybody have pics of their shock?
According to the factory manual, removing the stock shock looks easy enough, but is there anything I should look out for? I figure I'll use some tiedowns to suspend the bike from the rafters, just have to figure out where to attach them to the bike.
Any feedback appreciated...TIA

| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation Naw, you had it on the 'right' side abtech.
Red, I like it in this location because it looks less vulnerable to crash damage. Not to mention, I think it looks better. http://www.fireblades.org/iB_html/up...7-Adjuster.jpg |

| Thanks ab, that's where I was hoping I could mount it. Is that a custom bracket you used or did it come with the shock? I agree with LTL, it looks like the safest place to mount it and keep it protected.
ER, thanks for the great link! Is it necessary to remove the exhaust or rear tire?

| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation It's not necessary to remove either. I removed the exhaust because I wanted to use the chassis underneath the pipe to jack up the rear-end of the bike. I left the back wheel on. |

| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation Hey Red Rider,
I took a different way with the adjuster on my bike. If you
carefully route the adjuster cable straight up through the
frame and follow the main wiring harness back to the trunk,
you can drill a hole through the sidewall plastic and mount
it in there.
Reason for mounting it there is to keep passers by from
messing around with the settings.

| Great idea, Dano. Hopefully, that's not going to be a problem for me since I'm pretty much only ride on the track anymore. Got any pics of your setup?
SLODUCK...drooling over your full Ohlins setup. Abs, too!
Thanks for the help guys.

The bracket comes with the shock.
I have mine mounted the same way. *The bracket comes with the shock, but if I remember correctly you will have to reverse the mounting of the bracket to get the adjuster the correct way (Ohlins sticker outwards, and umbraco bolts hidden) if you place it on the left side. *That's what I did anyway... |

| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation Hey Red, I did it the same way as abtech and mounted the preload adjuster on the left passenger peg area. That is the side that slammed to the ground in my recent high-side. Although the bodywork in that area was fairly torn up and my subframe was tweaked, the preload adjuster did just fine. It is underneath enough that unless you crash into a bike or a tall curbing on that side then it isn't going to take any damage.
Also, don't worry much about that rash on the right lower. I have decided it is just the way things are with the 929. My stock bodywork would touch down there. Even my race bodywork has a nice hole there where I was touching it down repeatedly at Mid-Ohio, and this after I added some height to both the rear end and the front end, and had the suspension set up for me (preload, compression, and rebound). |

| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation Installed the shock last night and all went well. Took about an hour but you have to factor in the time spent running to the fridge for beer! I mounted the remote preload on the left side (same as abtech, lfg, etc.) and it definitely looks more protected than the right side. I routed the hose(cable?) along the crossmember on the subframe and ziptied it in place. Is that how you guys routed it? I wasn't sure if the bends would affect the operation of the adjuster (it does feel a little stiff to turn).
Definitely looks nice...can't wait to try it out with the re-worked forks.

| That's what I did and I've seen no stress or bending of the wire even after several track days. |

Same here. I tried to make sure there weren't any tight kinks in the cable/hose, but I zip-tied mine to the subframe beam just like you mentioned. The only thing I did different was to initially secure the cable/hose with some black electrical tape. I then put the zip ties over the black tape. I didn't want to have to worry about vibrations causing the zip tie to cut through the rubber housing of the cable/hose. |

| Excellent idea! I'm going to have to do that. I have some spare black wire wrap at home...maybe that'll work too. |

| Re: Questions about Ohlins Shock Installation Good suggestion...thanks lfg (and HG!. Can't wait to get back on the track and test it out. I still need to set the sag, but Dan said everything else is set to give me a baseline to start from.
Now if my forks would just hurry up and get here.....
